Hi everyone,
Found myself thinking about the whole accommodation situation in Sweden, Stockholm to be precise. Am sure many of us know how difficult if not impossible it is to acquire accommodation in Stockholm. Now here's what i ve been thinking. Is there no way 10-20 people can come together to form some sort of bostadsrätt association where everyone buys a land together and build a block of flats and everyone gets their own apartment in the building. Its probably cheaper to build a house/apartment from scratch so it would be cheaper than buying a ready made one which you have to bid for and you would also be able to design your own apartments to your own specific taste. You could even do things like having a gym in the building, maybe even a pool and so on. It may not be possible to all this but it seems to make sense in my head. |

The main problem is the relative land shortage and the high cost of aquiring land with residential planning permission - many people are chasing building land I know this was one of the problems that led to the shortage of student apartments in Uppsala - everytime there was a bid on land for new low cost apartments they were outbid by developers prepared to pay huge sums to build expensive BRs - it is the reason why they built on the park round the Ekonomikum one solution might be to consider commuting |

some hurdles, some physical, some costly, some social.
1. 10-20 people who are all willing to get along, put in equal amounts of cash and then do different amounts of work towards the project, but get along fine? 2. Finding the land and getting planning permission? 3. The legal contract between you alone would end up costing you more than it would to rent privately now for a year or more. It's a dream and sound a bit like a gated community, better off becoming Scientologist or something? Better to buy the land yourself, build your house on the best bit, sell the rest off as lots, once you have paid the larger cost of getting mains electric and water in place it will look more attractive to self builders. Given a bit of inflation and buying at the right time, you 'might' make a small profit. |
