I don't think it is just a debit card. Have a look at Mastercard's homepage. They have 4 types of card - credit card, debit card, bank card, pre-paid card. It's the last one which is free to use on ryanair - i guess. Would love to know where I can get one in sweden!

This site seems to be good for seeing which card products the Swedish banks offer http://www.kreditkort-betalkort.se/
I had a quick glance at the site and only noticed that only Forex has a prepaid card which is Visa. |

I don't think any Swedish bank offers pre-paid cards; they are either debit or credit cards, i.e. either your money is drawn directly from your account or you will get a bill... |

Goyada do a prepaid Mastercard.
Costs 100:- from an ATG agent 20:- everytime you add credit 20:- if you don't use it for 90 days Not tried it myself, heard it was relatively hassle free from friends, when you can get your hands on one. |

I think there is only one bank which offer real Prepaid Mastercard - Resursbank. Have a look at www.goyada.se and https://www.supremecard.se/refill/refill.jsp
Hope it helps |

The catch with most pre-paid Mastercards is the mad fee structure, many charge percentage fees for loading the card and also monthly fees are deducted from your account whether you use the card or not, so before you sign up for a pre-paid mastercard be sure to check the fee structure.
AFAIK the best prepaid Mastercard is from Moneybookers you sign up online and you can top it up from your regular Swedish internet banking account without any charges. Also here is a trick for booking Ryanair flights in your desired currency so that you don't incur additional bank charges for forex. (Shows how to change to Euro but can be used for SEK or Sterling or whatever depending on the airport you use in the second tab.) |

If anyone from UK still has a UK registered address you can use Caxton FX Global Traveller is a good one. No fee to load currency on to it, you load the card in sterling and no currency conversions if you buy in sterling. Works well if you are booking a Ryanair flight from UK - think they take 2.5% fee if you buy in SEK

They sound like a good idea but what you save on Theiving Bastard-Air's card fees, you will likely pay out relating to the card. I ordered one a while ago and when it came the accompanying letter informed me I needed to pay 40 pounds to activate it. Also there are your monthly charges of about 12 quid. If you are not using it every week, it simply isnt cost effective. Cheaper to pay the card booking fee with the airline. |

I got one from Neteller (Net+ Prepaid Mastercard). Works great. It has a 1.75% service charge for deposits and no charges for use, which is negligible compared to Ryanair's charges. Very easy to transfer money from my Handelsbanken Visa to the Neteller account and then pay Ryanair...

Charging for payment is currently illegal in Sweden, so if you can be bothered, book as normal with Ryanair then report them to konsumerverket to try and get your money back.
