Since leaving Cornwall in England for Stockholm 9 months ago I have been struggling with the cultural adjustment.
I feel I need some counselling support. Can anyone recommend an experience British therapist. I want to hear a familiar voice!

Luckily I was reccommended a British therapist in Central Stockholm called Jackie Adler (from London). At the time I had issues around my relationship. She was sooooooo helpful and the therapy was very effective right from the first session. She has a website www.jackieadler.se
Hope this helps! Good luck! H

Does it have to be a British therapist - alhough I have no personal experience I have heard many people on this an other Swedish expat forums recommending Beth Rogersson who is an American therapist who has cultural adjustment as one of her specialities
http://bethrogerson.com/

Obviously it is work researching the cost of therapy as it can add up and not all are affiliated to the private scheme

I'm sorry for invading OP's thread, but does anyone happen to know a good therapist in Gävle? And the cost if possible to tell?

It used to be in times of yore, one would seek the kind attentions of a local barman, one who would listen to your tales of woe... and then pour another...after a while you would feel a lot better...it worked before we got "therapists"...why not now?

Isn't it a bit odd that you have to seek a stranger to tell you how to behave/accept in your life?

Who is a person so learned that they could tell you about you and how to live your life?

Isn't that up to you/us?

The journey is ours...it's private...

And then they charge you??????????????

Skoal!

Thanks for your thoughts. I don't want someone to listen to my woes. I want to understand why I feel the way I do and I need someone to help me with that. I also need to know that what I say is confidential.

I think that it is a good idea to have some sessions so that you can talk about your feelings

I think it is a problem that many people have - perhaps because people don't expect there to be a culture shock from moving to Sweden yet there is - I think that also for many people there is also a feeling of loss if you have come from a busy career to starting again in Sweden or sitting at a school desk learning the language in order to basic things

I know I found it very tough and me and most people I know found it took a good couple of years
