Changes on Sky

Other channels suddenly available

Last night I took a look at the programme menu as usual, and then went on to do a channel roam. Never before have I had so many channels available. ITV 2,3 4, Channel 4 from the menu and not specially programmed, plus several other film channels that have normally been I believe on Astra 2D. I don't have HD, yet, so all are 'normal'. Has anyone else noticed the difference, and can anyone explain why these channels are suddenly up there for grabs?
I have a normal Sky Digibox and viewing card, and a 1m dish, but the limitations here on the west coast have not allowed me to see so many channels.
Anyone else experienced the same additions?

Could it be that your dish has been marginally unaligned and that it has recently moved slightly? Or could it be a weather thing?

We always get these channels (except in very severe thunder storms) - but then again we have a 1.6m dish in Dalarna

This is an interesting development... wonder if a 1.2m dish could now get these channels for me? I have Freesat integrated into my TV, and I'm in Malmö.

You could use http://www.onastra.com to see what's available. A dish above 1.6m should give you access to all the free channels on Sky.

Are you sure you have integrated Freesat.?

Most TV's have Freeview - Digital TV via the antenna not a satellite tuner

I've been checking up on 'Lygnsat' and the channels are now on Astra 1N, and there has been some changes on 14th Feb. BBC channels are still off limits, but now all four ITV channels are available along with a few other channels coming in on the frequencies below 11000. When you are used to not having these you tend not to include them in your favs. Hopefully, if they move BBC onto this satellite then even BBC will be available, although the Beeb is something I can live without.
As to my dish moving, there is little risk of that, and both signal strength and quality have been a stable 90%, bordering on the full 100. Little chance, though, of increasing the size, since that would require a surface mounting, and that would bring the dish below the tree line - not recommended.

Be interesting to hear what other sat viewers have found as a result of this Astra change-over. Here on the west coast we are not covered by that extra spot that is available further east, strange to say.

It is indeed because those channels have moved to Astra 1N...always had BBC1-2-3-4 here in Katrineholm

I found that some channels I had before have gone down in signal strength unfortunately and ITV2+1 rarely works now as signal is so low sad.gif gonna have to invest in bigger dish, right now I have a 1.25m dish, gonna gett a 1.80 to make sure...

Yes, 1N is good news for most. Bad news for me. My Trax 110 in Stockholm wont pick up 1N. I can't put a bigger dish up. I think the neighbours would lose it!

I'm going through mourning and according to reports the beeb will move over in the next few days! sad.gif. Took my bloody ages and loads of research etc to get my current setup. oh well.

Gonna cancel sky then and wait and see what happens later. 1N is only temporary and 2F will be launched later this year. No-one knows what will happen then but the chances are that the UK spot beam will be tighter but only time will tell!

Hope Swedish TV has improved !? Checked out the comhem website, they STILL don't have an on-demand/PVR combi box. One or the other... Unbelievable shite service.. !

Most reports coming show that your 1N reception should as good, maybe even better with a dish of that size. Maybe worth checking your alignment/lnb etc..

The signal strength I get from 1N is actually stronger than 2D and more stable. I now get Channel 5+1, 5 USA, 5 USA+1, 5* and 5*+1. the 5 USA channels are just like Swedish channel 8/9 - wall to wall NCIS/ Law and order sad.gif

There is a sharp cutoff to the east. looking at the forums a 150cm dish is the only way for a stable reception. The popular Channel Master 120CM dishes are not working, well, not all channels all the time, again according to report on other forums.

Remember 1N is only temporary and the new fleet is due to be launched later this year. The fear is that the UK spotbearm will be even tighter but of course, no-one will know until they are up and the firest test signals are sent, So the dish option is not looking good!
