Hi
I have heard about that foreign university degrees, etc., needs to be certified in Sweden before one can find a job based on that. And the process is quite lengthy I wonder if that applies for degrees only outside EU or only in certain professions like doctors, etc? I have a Master's degree from a business school in another EU country. Not sure if I have to go through such a process as well. I tried to search for info but still feel confused. Now I have a job in another Scandinavian country and my boss never bothered to certify my degree (he hired me before I graduated, actually) Thank you before hand and have a nice weekend! |

You don't have to get your bachelor and masters degree certificates translated - but it is certainly a good idea and it's free.
It may help your job applications if you have a Swedish translation so that the employers know how it equates to a Swedish degree - I am from the UK and I got mine done and it was the translation that got me my current job http://www.hsv.se/qualificationsrecognitio...7480002046.html You can also get your high school certificates translated at VHS - for example some employers want gymnasiet/A-level/IB etc etc English and maths - so it helps to have a certificate in Swedish that proves this http://www.vhs.se/sv/In-English/Evaluation...Qualifications/ It's up to you but the process is very easy - you fill in the form and send copies of your certificates and then wait for the letter |

You can also check out the databases to see whether your degree/university has been evaluated before
You can also check out the high school comparisons between Sweden and your country on VHS |

Hi Puffin,
Thank you very much for the info! It is really helpful for me Another two questions - 1) how long took you to get your diploma translated? (the website said 1 month but I heard stories about it being very slow like up to years, etc) 2) Can I do it while still living in another country? I have applied for the Swedish residence permit but haven't got it yet. Have a nice weekend |

Mine did take over a year - this was due to a catalogue of mistakes First by the person processing my paperwork - he was waiting for the University to sent him the ECTS breakdown - failing to realise that it was not relevant to my case - it took only around 4-5 weeks once they realised their mistake The other mistake was made by the study advisor at the college where I studied Swedish who told me that HSV assessed all educational certificates which was not true - it was first when I got the stuff back form HSV that there was a note that the school certificates should be sent ot VHS But I think my case was exceptional QUOTE 2) Can I do it while still living in another country? No - you need to be registered in Sweden with a personal number The only exception is when you apply for University Courses via studera as it is done as part of the application assessment |

Which country are you from?
It's not a big problems as from memory you only send off certified copies - so you can keep your originals in case you get an interview |
