I just got a letter in the mail from MIgrationsverket about my registration for residence. My Swedish isn't that great so I am confused. Does this say that I don't need a residence permit to live here? Can I get my person nummer now?

din uppehållsrätt gäller så länge du uppfyller villkoren enligt 3 a kap. 3 § utlänningslagen.

Underskrivet original förvaras hos migrationsverket.

Thanks in Advance!

The letter says that you are now registered as an EU citizen with right of residence. As such, you do not need residence or work permit.

To get your personnummer, contact the tax agency.

Most EU citizens get that. You have registered your right to live in Sweden. You can now take that bit of paper and go get a person number,as long as you are "expecting" to be staying in Sweden for more than 12 months. They wont give you a person number if you are saying you MAY stay for less.

And if it is for person with sufficient means, make sure when you go to Skatteverket You have EHIC card, and possibly medical insurance, and even maybe the S1 document biggrin.gif ...however, if the Skatteverket person is in a good mood, you'll be ok with just the Migrationsverket letter ... Welcome to Sweden. wink.gif

Having just been using Google translate on some family history papers (to save typing the bulk of the translation, if you want to know, since I could have done it all by the long way) I tested the original here out of interest. Only the title gets screwed interestingly.

And no, Google translate sometimes it pretty crap. Even for simple family history stuff it has insisted that Svensson was Smith and Kastrup was Copenhagen, even when the original was correct for my purposes. Any unusual words or construction can go haywire. I would hate to have to rely on it. Be warned.
