Hi,
I'm planning to move to Stockholm in September, where I will be in temporary accommodation until October whilst I find a place to live (all of this is being handled by a relocation company, so I'm assured it's all in hand...). I already have my work permit, and it is valid from 8 Oct, but I have been assured that I can arrive earlier (and I stated that I planned to do this in my application, where it asks for the date you plan to enter Sweden). Anyway, my question is about registering with Skatteverget and Försäkringskassan. It would be nice to be able to get the ball rolling on getting a personnummer, ID card, bank account, medical coverage, etc as soon as possible, as I know this can all take some weeks. Can I register with them as soon as I enter Sweden, or do I need to wait until I start work? Cheers, Tom |

You don't need to be working as long as you have a right of residence - it will give you access to services such as health/education etc
but also liability for taxes |

I just wanted to know if there was a requirement that my work contract take effect before I start that process. The question really came up for me when I was told I may not start work before 8 Oct, even though I was allowed to *come* to Sweden before that. This is not a problem, I just didn't know if it affected by ability to start picking through all the paperwork I have been prepared for thanks to the forums =) |

As far as I know, you can start the paperwork as soon as you're in the country. You just need the permit, probably your contract (they like seeing this, so bring it with you) and an address/place to send mail to.
Good luck! |
