The BBC website usually allows all channels to be seen live :
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/tv/bbc_one_london/watchlive ITV allows you to watch live ITV1 http://www.itv.com/live/ However, I am not sure if your Expat shield is up for the task. Usually the free options are so over used that they don't have enough bandwidth to allow for live streams. So many of us use private paid for VPN's to get content. There are many VPN providers out there and I am sure many people on this board will chime in with their own recomendations. But I know of at least a good handfull of people who use this VPN Provider with good results. Otherwise you have filmon as a free live streaming provider. However, it doesn't look like it will be up for much longer as from what I understand it has lost an important legal battle. And this is why they have offered most of their channels for free now (it used to be a paid for subscription). Along with some piece of hardware (film on air) that won't offer any solutions for viewers located in Sweden. |

Filmon has been ok in the past when it was a non free service.
However since being forced into a free model more problems have arisen. Such as shows being cut off every 5 minutes because "subscription expired" even though a subscription is not required since filmon has made it services free. Many believe that filmon won't be able to last much longer since they can't charge for content from other providers. And that channels they have partnered with to be able to broadcast, don't generate revenue to sustain film on. |

I fined that most of the time Expat shield is good for streaming live TV as byke has described however most of the UK TV which I watch I get from a private torrent tracker which specialises in UK TV only, this is great for getting HD content and fast.

With the Expat Shield, you are pretty much limited to live media via the 2 links previously submitted. Obviously you have other channels to get catchup shows, like channel for and five (bbc etc).

A much better free option than Expat shield is Playmo which is a smart dns service so there is no throttling of your connection speed. Not all devices are supported yet and they will I'm sure they will start charging for it in the future, but for the moment it is free.
Another Smart DNS service is Un Block Us it's normally US$4.99 a month but you can get a free trial for a week to test it out. The beauty of Smart DNS services (apart from not throttling your connection) is that once you navigate to a supported website that website sees your IP as if it is in it's territory and allows you to view the content, so you can switch between say BBC in the UK and ABC in the US without having to change any settings as you would with a VPN. If you want the best of both world Overplay VPN also gives you a smart DNS service as part of their standard subscription. |

Just wondering if anyone using a dish to watch free to air British channels, have lost any signal/channels at all, its been a week or so that I completely lost film4, film4 +1, ITV2+1, BBC Scotland, signal is so low now that I cant watch those channels anymore even though they worked for months no problem and my other channels havent lost any signal at all, dish didnt move either, possibly those channels were moved to another transponder or something but I cant find anything about it online on the usual lyngsat etc... anyone else has the problem?
Thanks |
