Swedish people don't have good relationships with their parents? Utter bollocks.
My sambo has always insisted on visiting them at every opportunity, usually at least once a week, which if you look at our calendars is really pushing it. Since we have had our son, it has gotten a lot more frequent, although I am actually grateful for that, as it's nice to have the extra babysitting help. One of the biggest fights we had was one period a few years ago when I said I was NOT going to go to her parents for the weekend and would rather stay behind and visit friends, go to gym, play computer games, write code, etc. It quickly devolved into a mud slinging match, but it did teach me one thing: my sambo does love her parents! |

I don't recall anybody saying that Britain was bad for children...only you.. Golly, gee...you wouldn't be trolling...would you? No, it is a popular opinion among the Swedes in the UK too. Most of them move back when they about to have children. Andres Lokko is the latest example. |

Swedish people as a rule are terrified of people who generalize. If something is not scientifically proven it has no bearing according to the Swedish code of discussion. You have to come up with statistics to prove your point or it's not valid. Or you have to quote someone in authority. The idea the people just think for themselves and come up with their own conclusions and individual opinions is very disconcerting for them.
However, how on earth is anybody going to discuss anything if we don't generalize? I believe a discintion is needed here between expressing an opinion based on personal experience and making generalizations. So there are people out there who think that Swedes are caring and sociable beings? Fine: let's compare our experiences and why we think the way we do. But to seriously believe that you can discuss any topic in an objective manner based on "facts" is a joke. Even scientists don't claim to be able to do that as whether you want to or not you'll always be biased in some way or form By the way, I didn't say Swedes are anti-social but asocial... |

It's funny how the initial poster is shot down for making generalisations by the same people who then go on to make generalisations themselves. Surely it is just as much a

"...go to ANY UK town..." means all UK towns Can you name any large UK town or city, where heavy drinking doesn't occur on a weekend night, which will require extra Policing, Ambulances and councils cleaning up, 52 weeks of the year? You can name me any large town or city that has NOT had CCTV cameras installed to monitor alcohol related violence etc on the streets on any evening? Or introduced alcohol street consumption bans? Can you also name me any A&E dept where 75% of it's weekend customers are NOT there through something alcohol related? Whilst not every UK resident 16-25 binge drinks every weekend, many times more do, rather than don't, but yes it's not everyone. Perhaps you have travelled around the UK alot, I don't know, but I think you may be underestimating or simply don't know of the UK's problem. |

The values are better in Sweden, except for xenophobia. Wouldn't wish a female child to grow up in the sexist Britain. |

Sounds like you met the wrong persons then. In many other cultures people say something is missing when they actually mean it exists but of poor quality. So when olga said there was no relationship between Swedish grown up children and their parents, she most probably meant that there was one but very weak and poor. |

Well, if you make inane statements you better have something to back them up. That is sort of the basis of an argument, otherwise it is just an opinion.

Bit of a slip up there. Just figured out who they are. The same stripes show through eventually. Will be fun seeing how long they can juggle the personas.

I think you are right. So there really is not much incentive to come on here as a genuine innocent poster trying open up a honest dicussion if you are going to be accused of being: a liar, an idiot, insecure and/or troll. Guess it kinda answers the initial post. |
