Cheap imitation ...
if they cant even put a flake and some raspberry sauce on it Then what hope do they have for things like ice cream vans? And given Sweden's reputation with suicide, hows that going to look when little Olle peers into the ice cream vans window with great excitement only to find the ice cream man laying dead on the floor covered in chocolate sauce and hundreds and thousands. I dont think any Swedish parent is going to be able to explain to little Olle that the ice cream man has topped himself. |

Airy artificial tasting cream stuck on a cone made out of cardboard. Nope, I'll be sticking to mjukglass, thank you very much.

increase the cream content, source your cream in Sweden, spend a small fortune on market, then be prepared to right off £1/2m if it flops and you have to sell off all the kit you imported for peanuts. You need to create a novelty and not just 99s, otherwise many folk will walk on by.

Are you for real on here or what ??
After reading some of your comments on here it seems as if some of you have never seen an ice cream van before in your life. On an ice cream van you don't just sell Mr whippy soft ice cream. which is 100% dairy cream not the cheap long life crap that some if you think. an ice cream van also sells screwballs, frozen whippy yogurt with fresh fruit and berrrys on a cone or waffle cone, 2 flavours of slush, over 85 different flavours of lollies,, sweets, crisps, popcorn candy floss.milk shakes. Soft drinks teas and coffees. All the above plus 10 flavours of scooping ice cream. You don't have ice cream vans in Sweden at the minute like the ones we have the UK, not because no one likes it, but because of the logistics of getting the mix there. |

Before you deride us, it is you who came here for advice. Next, there ARE ice cream vans and stands ALREADY in Sweden. Many theme parks etc have them, they are popular, but hardly excelling. So you are not bring something new to a new market. It's a DIFFERENT culture, in the UK if the sunshines and it's -4c then parents buckle to their kids and buy them ice cream, which they eat whilst shivering and dressed inappropriately. Here many rural areas have a van that drives around a weekly route, stopping at key points in villages, toots his horn or plays a tune, people then buy either big 1-2litres tubs or smaller open tubs to eat immediately etc. They don't do this in winter. Now, if you have a van and sold fresh swedish strawberries and ice cream, whipped cream etc. you would do better. Care to publish a list of your ice creams superior contents? |

Sweden has the 2nd highest Ice-Cream consumption in Europe, and we're not talking per capita, but rather per person, approx 11.5L per person per year!
That alone should tell You that whilst there is a high demand for the product, there is already a very very well established Supply. For a new supplier to enter the market would be quite tough, and probably have to suffer a few years of losses before possibly taking a profitable market share. Your Mr Whippy vans would have to compete with the already ingrained pavlovian style reaction to Hemglas vans that blast their music when they arrive. The Hemglas tune is recognised by almost everyone! Mind You, You might get some free publicity with a van called Mr Whippy, or even Mr Softy for that matter! |

You don't have ice cream vans in Sweden at the minute like the ones we have the UK, not because no one likes it, but because of the logistics of getting the mix there. Hemglass has been selling ice cream from vans around Sweden since 1968. the rather irritating tune can be heard in every town and village. kids rush out to get a lolly or ice cream at the sound of the tune and people buy boxes of their favourite varieties to stick in the freezer. There is soft ice cream ( mjuk-glass) that is sold using pre-packed ice cream that is pushed through a machine. All operated under much stricter hygiene standards that you get away with in the UK. less profit for the seller but less food poisoning for the consumer. As far as not knowing what we are talking about, the majority of people posting on this thread are expat Brits who know about UK ice cream vans. |
