(edit title) Eurovision Advice Needed Budget accommodation Options

Hello, I'm one of the odd Brits who will be heading to Malmo in May for the Eurovision Song Contest. I'm trying to look for a cheap place to stay during my visit to Scania. I'm happy to stay in hostels but there doesn't seem to be much available already. I've got a hire car booked as I want to do some exploring so don't need to be super close to Malmo itself. I'd also happily camp but I was wondering about whether I'd be able to pick up a super cheap tent once I arrive in Sweden rather than bring one on the plane and potentially have to pay for baggage. Does this sound feasible? As a single female traveller I don't really want to go down the route of couch surfing but there may be other options I don't know about yet.

So the question is this really: Can you recommend anything that might help please?

B&B in Sjöbo, May 13-18, SEK 2 700 = £ 260. Distance, 30 miles from Malmö. I don't think you can go much cheaper than that:

Oh dear, not good news I'm afraid, you needed to book months ago The minute Malmö was announced everyone booked like crazy and the hotels in Malmö pretty much sold out that day. Lots of us had provisionally booked rooms at every city it could have been for every week it could have been because we know how quickly affordable hotels sell out.

Search for Copenhagen on www.booking.com for the dates you want, then order them by price. There's a few rooms there for less than £600 for the week still. But be quick. There's no way you'll get anything less than that Im afraid, Rooms in Malmo are about £1000 per night! It means train-ing it in to the country from Copenhagen over the bridge every day so budget for that too. Otherwise, yes, 30+ miles away is the only option and the cost of petrol and parking... if there is anywhere to park. Not sure what restrictions they put on traffic whilst ESC is on.

All joking aside, I cannot for the life of me fathom why anyone would honestly want to travel anywhere to see the ESC.
An over-rated jippo that costs a fortune and has very little to do with song quality. The last time I saw it was when ABBA won, and then I watched it by chance during a stay in the UK.

Check out "vandrarhemskartan". I should rather stay in Lund, it´s much nicer city than Malmö (about 20 km away).
Vandrarhem is youth hostel in Swedish, but you´ll find B&B:s too.

To sleep in a tent somewhere sounds less safe than couchsurfing for a single female traveller. I wouldn´t do it, but maybe that´s just me. And it could also get a bit cold at night, right now it´s 3°C in Malmö, in a month it will probably get a little bit warmer, but you might have a good sleeping bag.

We let out 3 rooms in our spacious, calm och light apartment. If you are coming for Eurovision, there is no better place to be located - a 5 minute walk from train station Triangeln, one stop (2minutes) away from Malmö Arena. The area (Möllevången) is the cultural heart of the city, with affordable cosy urban restaurants and cafes just around the corner. The apartment is located on the 4th floor, overlooking a corner of Folkets park.
