What do you mean by residents ID? Do you mean that you've registered your right of residence online with Migrationsverket?

If you've just registered your right of residence, you won't get an ID card, just a letter saying that MV have received your registration. It can take anywhere from a few weeks to six months - everyone seems to get different times though the waiting period may have changed recently.

Person Bevis from Skatteverket is all you need.

I applied for my residents ID 2 weeks ago online. I still havent recieved anything back yet, not even a notification that it was completed correctly.

Really frustrating at this stage as I can't get an ID or a number of other things without this residents permit. I have started work since Monday so going to the Migrationsverket is not really an option now.

Wow, you sound like my ex-wife. It astounds me how many people sit around waiting/hoping for electronic replies to things. If you really want to know the status for something that is time-critical for you, phone the contact number on the website. You've got a far greater chance of getting an up to date answer by talking directly to someone than you will have sitting staring at your computer hoping that someone will one day get around to you. What did we all do before computers ? As someone else has mentioned, go to Skatteverket to get what you need. Walk there in your lunch hour if you can. The direct approach usually gets the best results. Otherwise sit and wait for them to come to you at their leisure. I guess it depends on how important it is to you.

Strange answer

Most people would call the agency concerned (their telephone times are published on their website) and call to find out how far your application has got - I would not either expect a fast response during the summer holiday period where most agencys operate will a skeleton staff from mid june to mid august

However I have to say that I am not really sure what you have applied for - is it?
- a residence permit from Migrationsverket?
- an ID card from Skatteverket?
- a kommun registration (folkbokforeing) and personal number from Skatteverket?
- a Driving licence from Transportstyrelsen? exchange of an EU licence that you hope to use in place of an I/D card?

I have tried calling them a number of times and the queue is approximately 30 minutes long. This can be quite expensive when calling from an Irish cell phone.
I have went to MigrationVerket on a number of occasions but due to the number of people it would take forever.

To be honest I'm not really sure what I'm looking for neither and it appears any public servants I have spoken to don't know either. Depending on who you talk to you'll get a different answer.

I have my personnummer, that was the easy part. I went into Skatteverket with passport and employment contract and that was it.

Now for the difficult part....

I need something to say I am a resident here in order to obtain a driving license. What I need I have no clue of but some refer it to as a residents permit.

If you registered your right of residence due to having a work contract, you don't need a residence permit.

You say you are calling from an irish cellphone. What's wrong with buying a Swedish pay as you go phone (you won't get a contract until you have resided here for some months more) to cut the cost of calling?

Do you already have an EU driving licence? In that case, all you need to do is call Transportstyrelsen , give them your person number like I did, and they will send the forms out to you direct. Maybe you need a personbevis from SK at a later date in the process, but this is how you start anyway.

OK I called Skatteverket. Got someone after approx 20 mins. What I needed was a person bevis. This I will recieve in about 2 working days.

Was'nt that hard at all. Pity people in the tax office sent me on the wrong track.

All resolved now I think.

Keggles.

I guess the 'douche bag' gave good advice.
