Hi Locallers...

This is the strangest post I've ever had to write...

My best mate arrived over from Ireland on Friday afternoon for the weekend.

Unfortunately, he has gone missing. He was last seen on Saturday night in a restaurant called Orion Restaurant, (on the corner of Katarina Bangata 75 and Norrtullsgatan 59 in Södermalm) at around midnight.

He was due to fly back to Ireland yesterday morning (Monday)but his passport is here in my apartment.

His name is John Aherne, he has black hair and is approximately 175cm tall. He was wearing a blue and white striped shirt under a light yellow wool jumper and blue jeans.

Of course, the police, hospitals and embassy etc. have been contacted.

I would be grateful if you could keep a look out for anybody fitting his discription and contact me here or through Facebook.

I would also appreciate any suggestions as I really dont know what else I can fcuking do! I'm freaking out!!!

Thanks

/K

The media, radio, press.

Do you have a picture of him that you can post. ALSO you should contact The Local directly as I am sure they would be able to run the story as well as including a picture of him!

I hope he is safe!

Sorry to hear about your mate.

I don't remember seeing anyone of that description over the last few days.

Will try and keep a look out.

I went through the same thing with a friend of mine a while back.

Right now, there's not much you CAN do. If people do not WANT to be found, you won't find them. And if they DO want to be found, they'll appear sooner or later.

As a consolation, in most cases the police will figure out approximately what has happened, even if the person isn't found in a long time.

I guess I do. In most cases though, it's an educated guess based on what would be called "circumstantial evidence" in court, plus experience. Or, people just turn up after a few days of whatever when they run out of money. That's the most probably conclusion to this story, I'd say.

To give some moral support, thousands of people are reported missing each year in Sweden. Thousands. Out of these, only a handful are "mysterious" and a clear answer is not found. The statistics speak in your favour.

Let's hope he met a nice girl there at the restaurant and has had a wild weekend of sex with the love of his life, and turns up soon, when her husband gets home or something.

Let's hope so!

I am sure he is alright, but understand his friend is freaking out, I would be too.

I feel so sorry for you and can well imagine what you are going through, and as others already said, I hope that he can return soon. Anyway, he could at least had given you a phone call if he intended to spend some time with somebody else he eventually met, hadn't he?

Is there any clue in anything that happened on Saturday night that he might be keeping away on his own accord - a row/ a girl etc etc

Was there any reason that he did not go home with you that night?

Have you checked that he has not arrived home? - for example got an emmergency passport issued in another country and gone home from there - he could travel to Finland, Denmark, Norway etc without having to show a passport.

^^

He was in good humour all day. There was nothing in his attitude/behaviour to suggest he would disappear.

I've been talking to the police again this morning and they're going to contact interpo. I've also being in touch with the Irish embassy and they haven't had any contact.

Literally he vanished when he walked out of the restaurant. Really unusual.

 :?

Wow... I thought you were joking in your status messages on FB... Keeping my fingers xed for his safe return, and let me know if there's anything I can do to help! Perhaps (hopefully) he just met up with one of those infamous Swedish women and hasn't come back up for air yet...

Oh god lovey, you must be worried sick. I hope he shows up very soon and the only thing you'll need to worry about is whether to hug him or punch him in the jaw.

I thought you were joshing too...

When we went to munich last year a friend lost his passport and managed to return to the UK without contacting the embassy, just by talking to the airline and the airport police and getting a letter permitting him to travel...so if you've got any idea who he was flying with, maybe worth asking them if he's been in contact (If you havent already...)

I'm sure he'll turn up soon and as VHW says you'll have to decide which to do first! I'd opt for the hug, bout of expletives then chin him smile.gif

What a nightmare!

I posted a link to this thread on a swedish mountainbike forum I frequent, most of the other posters there are stockholm based and might increase the search network.

Have you done the pictures on lamposts and telephone kiosks thing yet?

If you feel up to it perhaps you can share some more info.
What is your relation to the missing guy?
Was he drunk when he vanished?
Was he talking to anyone else previous?
Has he been to sweden before?
Did you guys have a disagreement?

Not digging for dirt, just concerned and intruiged as to how someone can just vanish!

Bish <---- witty comment not suitable on this thread.
