so, im moving to sweden next year for school, and in california marijuana is used for medical purposes...and i use marijuana regularly. i guess my question is, how is weed viewed? cause i know here soooo many people use it recreationally despite it still being illegal. i mean i dont know anyone really who doesnt blaze. so im kinda hoping thats how it will be in sweden, but i really dont know so i just wanted to have input from people who live there. i really appreciate any information cause its gonna be one tough year away from california if i cant blaze

try another country, dude... you'll have to keep your nose pretty low to the ground to sniff out any pot action in this place
then again, maybe you could take a year off and go check out reality... it's a pretty good buzz |

It's here if you find the right people, but it's definitely more hush-hush than the States, the UK - or most other places. It's not as socially acceptable as you're used to, so if and when you do get hooked up, I'd keep it quiet.
Like you, I moved from a place where EVERYONE smoked, so being straight took a while to get used to (I live in a small town where there is nothing most of the time). I don't know, maybe the big Swedish cities are full of potheads and you'll get hooked up straight away, but I wouldn't get your hopes up too much. You could always bring your own stash  |

This pretty much sums up the majority in Sweden on this issue. It is around, you can find it, just need to know where to look (like anything else illegal I suppose). But it's definitely not as common as in the US, especially Cali. Smoking grass is next to murder, but getting rocked to your bones on snapps is perfectly ok. |

I'm from Southern California and this is one of the things that's been the most difficult to get used to in Sweden—the mentality that most Swedes view weed as a very taboo drug, yet have no problem smoking cigarettes and getting plastered on booze. I'm not really a weed smoker myself, but I just don't understand the harsh views about the drug here, and probably never will.

How old are you? Where are you going? Views upon cannabis differs a lot between ages and areas. I think it's rather acceptable nowadays, at least amongst younger men in cities. For some reason, most teenage girls and young women are terrified of it.
As for buying, it shouldn't be a problem if you live in a city. Especially not in a city with a university. Also, good marijuana (and not hasch) is easier to get a hold of the further south you live. |

in sweden its socially acceptable to drink yourself into oblivion, pinch womens asses in bars, puke several times on your way home in public, and pass out and poop yourself in the stairway to your apartment.
But never, ever sit at home, smoke a spliff and watch tv! This is strictly forbidden! |

Come study in Amsterdam or Groningen. Both cities dominated by young people/students and shops open till 04:00. 8)
Saves you cash and you get no hassle walking out the shop and enjoying your spliff walking downtown on a sunny day. |

It's funny because it really is frowned upon in Sweden, yet you'd think most of them were stoned when you're there!

But never, ever sit at home, smoke a spliff and watch tv! This is strictly forbidden! Yes mate, but there's a difference. In this country, as most others, Booze is legal, cannabis is not. And one of the most wonderful aspects of Sweden is that it is, by and large, a law abiding country. But, bless, poor love, how's it going to cope with educayshun if it can't "blaze" (maaaan...)? |

thnx 8) You're a very lucky, privileged child, fortunate enough to be travelling the world, expanding your horizons, seeing new places, soaking up culture in the old world and receiving a first class education, to boot. You must be so excited, and maybe a little concerned "Will I be able to get to grips with the language?", "will it be difficult to meet new friends?", "what's the weather like?". But no, wait.... your main concern is: "will I be able to find an adequate supply of illegal drugs?". Oh dear, oh dear...were you like this before you started to "blaze"(?), or is this a side effect of all that "Blazin'"? Good luck with making a useful contribution to the human race, by the way!! |

I wonder if this is how people react in Saudi/Kuwait/etc when we complain about them not selling alchohol in their countries?
If this is what he does for recreation, why shouldn't he be concerned? I don't smoke, but I think it should be up to the individual whether they do this type of thing, not the gov't. |

Oh you big meanies. Poor Mary Jane said she needed it for medical purposes. She probably has terminal cancer or some terrible disease that only smoking marijuana can alleviate. I hear doctors have given people who broke a finger a medical marijuana prescription for "phantom pain." Poor people, and shame on you for picking on a sick person.
