QUOTE (Shark99 - Förlorare)
It could be an east coast or west coast thing, we in the midwest just do crystal meth.

LOL! ya nasty little perv!

Among the effects reported by users are increased libido and sexual pleasure, the ability to have sex for extended periods of time, and an inability to ejaculate or reach orgasm or physical release. In addition to increasing the need for sex and enabling the user to engage in prolonged sexual activity

QUOTE (Streja)
I don't like drugs, don't particularly like drunk people and hate cigarettes. Does that make me judgemental? No, each to their own, but I don't want to do drugs myself and it does not make me weird.

I find the American double standards quite funny. When I say American and double standards I mean the way many (not all) Americans talk about marijuana as if it's the best thing in the world, while at the same time their government put those who get caught in prison. Plus on telly it seems like anyone who smokes pot is a drug addict and must be cured by Dr Phil. Atleast in Sweden we're consistent.

wink.gif

How is it double standard when it is not practiced by the same person? Many people like it but the gvmnt does not approve.

QUOTE (Paddy)
Of course it is.

I bet you've tried it! And if not, don't knock it! To be honest I don't smoke it myself (I did a bit when I was younger), but see it as much less of a problem than alcohol, which is the cause of a ridiculous percentage of crime, especially in this country.

Not that I'm calling for a ban on alcohol - I want that on record!!

Let's say that you live in California like our stoner pal Mary.
That stuff you're smoking comes from Mexico and unfortunately, or fortunately, if you are Mary, there is quite a lot of competition to supply Mary and his/her clever mates.
I don't want to bring down the vibe maaaan, or anything, but unfortunately this has resulted in the deaths of thousands of people - some involved in the supply chain, members of law enforcement agencies, judges and people just caught in the crossfire.
So while it may not cause "much" crime in California, or Sweden, some poor fecker down the line might have paid for your harmless recreation with his life.
Now, I like to have a beer now and then. Some people drink beer and do stupid things. But when I open my can of Mariestads, I can be reasonably sure that a dozen delivery men from the brewery weren't executed by a bunch of thugs from Pripps Blå in a turf war.

So maybe pot should be decriminalized? Or maybe alcohol should be criminalized?

Yes, of course, that's a reasonable assumption. And luckily, we live in a democracy, so it becomes enough of a vote winner, I'm sure it will happen.
But in the mean time, it's illegal so, if you support the concept of democratic government and all that entails (like obeying the law, even if you don't like it), then you will just need to find a new hobby.

All true, except the practicality. The US tried the prohibition before. It did not work and the law changed. Making a law and passing it is easy - making it relevant and workable is harder. So...there is practicality issues here.

Would you stop sipping a cold one on a hat summer day as you BBQ if there was a law against it?

I feel that you guys who are all bashing on smoking pot are just being narrowminded. some people do need it for medical purposes, and using it isnt inteded for the soul purpose of "getting high". I dont judge anyone for anything they do, it is a choice, simple as that. I dont drink, but I dont criticise people who do. There have been no deaths from overdosing on marijuana, but have there been deaths from too much alcohol? yea. i dont know why sweden carries such a negative connotation to weed, it is really just a plant. AND yeah if you buy it off the street in cali it may come from mexico and go through a whole chain of sellers, BUT if you buy it at a despensery (like i do) its home grown shit. i really didnt expect so many negative remarks when posting this, and it makes me a little sad to know that all this negativity is coming from a place that im gonna be living next year. i know ill find a way to blaze once im there, im just sad that the majority of people seem so closed minded towards it. i mean, think how it would feel to move to the states and hear alcohol was illegal? a zero tolerance drug? just dont be so quick to judge is my point, and if you dont want to blaze thats fin, but dont hate on those who do.

Sweden isn't a direct democracy like Switzerland and doesn't offer referenda on every political issue, so even if the majority were against alcohol, there's no way they'd ban it - it generates too much money. Sweden also ignores the results of referenda, like when they asked the citizens if they wanted to drive on the right-hand side of the road in the 60s and the vast majority said no. The majority of the country probably wants to bring back the death penalty (they certainly do in the UK), so it's not a good thing anyway.

There is a perceptual legal ambiguity though. It is so prevalent police stopped prosecuting (except on the show "cops"). I guess this MJ problem in this. Regardless, my advice to MJ - Sweden does not have the same norms as North America on this and it ain't gonna change soon - so either get ready to change your habits or not to change location and fire on up.
