Well perhaps breaded plaice but definitely battered cod , as I said I'm aware of all the great pubs who serve "fish and chips" only too well

I think a mobile van, you have a permanent stand somewhere say 11am - 5 or 6pm, then each evening from 7-9pm you park up in a different suburb, you have to keep it to the same day in the same place each week. Many places do this in the UK. I have seen Pizza vans do this around campsites in the French Alps too.
You can then market yourself in each area with leaflet drops. That way you can make most of Stockholm your market place, rather than just one location if you set up a shop. The next step would be special events and or shows. Won't be cheap to set up a decent van, plus you'll run a loss until your get established and work out which are you good locations etc.. But, I think it would work, provided you can cook decent fish and chips. Serve dross once and you'll collapse. |

Oh but there are already mobile vans that turn up to events and claim to serve fish and chips! (read: french fries and some sad thing that looks like a fish-finger in batter! )
There should be one of those wonderful EU rules about what can be called Fish & Chips Remember to wrap whatever You sell from the van in newspaper ... I don't know about You lot, but I used to be asked all the time if it was true that we ate fish and chips from a newspaper when in England If You start one, post here ...I and my kids will certainly become customers |

Oh yes newspaper for sure but that's where an e.u. law is in place already , something to do with ink apparently , pfffft , it never hurt me , but yes they would at least be wrapped up in brown paper with a good shake of salt and a drenching of malt viniger before serving ,, I'm getting hungry now thinking of that lovely smell....

Back I believe in the '70's in Gbg there was an attempt by the British community to operate a mobile fish 'n chip shop in a double decker. As I remember, it ran for a while but faded into obscurity. Whether it was due to lack of custom, or conflict with the Swedish health authorities I know not, but it has not been resurrected any way.
Back home in Alconbury in the 1940's, we had a mobile fish and chip van that came to the village every Thursday from the nearby town of St. Neots, and that performed a sterling service in those days, but even that has gone the way of the double decker. Nostalgia ! ! Ah! The sound of its gong, and the smell from the pan! I rather doubt that a real chippy would last long here in Sweden since the locals are not exactly into - shall I say - our way of life regarding just that special form of meal. They favour more their 'varm korv med mos' from the 'gatukök', and once the novelty has worn off, the chippy would suffer. I guess that it is why F & C gets served in the pubs, since they tend to have a constant flow of customers. Up here on the west coast there is nothing of the kind, I fear. But for heaven's sake don't get embroiled again on this thread. You know what happened on the last one recently, when a few non-Brits got very antagonistic about one of our national dishes. |

I most respectfully apologize for my last post.
Moderators I wrongly accused you of removing something and you did not, I am sorry for acting so foolishly. The only defense I have is that I looked on the wrong page. Again, I apologize for my erroneous post. Humbly, GH |

I rather doubt that a real chippy would last long here in Sweden since the locals are not exactly into - shall I say - our way of life regarding just that special form of meal. There is probably a german collective craving a Schnitzel with jager sauce or Bratwurst van. There was such a van doing the rounds of several military place in the late 80s, early 90s in nottinghamshire. Catering for those who aquired the taste on tours in Germany. A F + C van still does the round in Wensleydale to this day, they are very good too. Occasionally some none F + C eater moaned about litter or the smell, but the demand never waned. A bacon, sausage or egg butty van might do better. |

Just wondering why this is an issue when you have pubs over pubs serving brilliant fish and chips already? In Stockholm it is NOT hard to come over this dish, and as for small chipper vans n such, most little sibylla places have fish n chips on the menu, maybe not the best but at 3 am when you reeeeally want it i don't think the quality really matters? And for the occasions it does, go to the bagpipers, the dubliners, tudor arms, The liffey, o'connells, Wirströms, Galway or any other of the irish or english bars and enjoy!

price, the thing is with a chippy, it's a take away. You will probably knock fish and chips out at 60-70kr over here, UK it's about £4-5 (in north). I suspect your pubs are charging a little more? You sell on volume in a chippy, not mark up. |
