Er... ok.

Obviously your attitude is part of the problem. You'll find the same "problems" in Sweden as you would in the Netherlands. The countries are very similar.

You can move to Sweden to try it out but given your attitude I'm sure you'll be disappointed. Every situation is what you make of it.

Discrimination exists everywhere, and it is e'er harder for immigrants as a resultant. Group in generic run to tendency those they reflect more kindred to themselves, it's meet hominian nature. The exclusive way you can wait an sluttish pair is if you someone enough money to be prepossessing to people as an investor or an employer. The chances for you to get a well job here are littler, it's not a awake. Flat with a saintly dismantle of Swedish you may endeavor to encounter something worth making the displace for.

I live in The Netherlands - have done for 10 years. Yes, there are problems with racism, tell me a country where this is not the case (INCLUDING Israel). Is it a cause for making this country out as being worse than any other? Definitely NOT. This is a great country and does not deserve to be belittled in such a way.

I would advise you to go back to Israel - but the odds are very long that you will not be happy there either.

Law of Attraction.... think negative...get negative. Like many have said if you keep a certain attitude you will experience the same everywhere. People are people wherever you go. Personally I find the Dutch delightful and language is language...its a beautiful thing, all languages are. If you don't like the Dutch language then you don't like speaking it... people hear it in your voice hence the negative vibes you receive back :-) do you follow!
There is nothing wrong with the 16 million people in Holland....it is in yourself! You live in their country....it is a matter of courtesy to uphold language and traditions and laws. If you don't I wouldn't like you living in my country and its not being racist.
Good luck with whatever decision you make, sometimes the tough ones really make us grow!

I agree, I lived in Holland for 6 years. I learnt to speak the language and made many Dutch friends, many of which I still keep in contact with 30 years later.

There where other expats, I knew at that time, who hated everything about the country, people and language. These where the type of people who would never be happy anywhere, the type of people who are never happy unless they are miserable. There are quite a few of them here in Sweden, that come on to this forum.

If I was to leave Sweden, I would move back to Holland before my native UK.

From my own experience (Skane region), unless your name doesn't end up with *sson or alike, you will always be a "lower class" being (not citizen), no matter how great you blend in or how educated you are.

Thanks to that, I will move out somewhere warmer (and live with the same crap, but the sun will make it a lot easier to the extent that I won't even care anymore) or go back to my homeland ASAP and dedicate my life to fixing things that need fixing there, rather then staying here and being just an ID number until I die and my body gets shipped back to where it came from.

Isn't it amazing how far reaching people's wisdom and foresight here on the Local are! You all must be paranormal mediums to be able to transcend your physical selves, travel to another person's body and live their lives. I know I can, but I need candles, and all the stores are closed today.

Anyway, if you happen to have a positive mind set and you come across another human being who is frustrated, how does that help anything to berate them? Is it supposed to be tough love? A little sour tasting medicine? What's the guy supposed to do? Blow smoke up his own ass? I guess he lives in Holland, so he can always be a good example for his child and smoke and drink his negative-Nancy attitude away (like the majority of relentlessly happy, cheery northern Europeans). And there's always nationalism to fall back on. We all know how much mental effort that takes. My new business idea is coaching HR directors of Swedish companies on how to be xenophobic, nationalistic hypocrites. It's the way of the future and Sweden doesn't want to be left behind! And by the way, the whole "love it or leave it" thing is for Americans with George Bush bumper stickers. After all my time in Sweden, I've concluded that had most of the Swedes I've met been Americans with the same values and attitudes they show here, they'd have voted for Bush. Put that on your little half-sandwich. Yes that is irrelevant, but disturbing and you should care. Oh, I'm just so negative.

Hats off to the Dutch guy who offered to help the poster out. The help will probably come in the form of simple suggestions. THAT's a positive attitude. "Where do you live? What are you into? Ok, I know about this knitting club you'd like. They aren't well known, but are open-minded people. A lot of ex-Hells Angels folks." It's as simple and dramatic as that.

Assuming makes an ass out of you and me.

Thanks for taking the time anyway..

You know, I expected some people to attack me because of my harsh description on Holland, but what I went through and the experience I had with Dutch people was very harsh too.

One of the most annoying things I came across in Holland was that when you make a mistake, even if it is so small then you will not be treated as an individual but as a nationality, so you will hear them saying f** Israeli or Moroccan or Turkish.

Back in Israel we had an old Dutch man living in the neighborhood for as long as I remember, and he was always treated like one of us, yes there is Israeli-Palestinian conflict but that is a very different story, and yes there is racism everywhere but I rather have a skinhead German saying it in my face than this "Stabbing in the back" all the time.

However, coming across "The Local" and then this forum I started reading it on daily basis, the comments on news and posts freaked me out, it sounds Sweden is even more racist than Holland, lol. I didn't notice that when I went there, but it was only for 2 weeks and I spent it with a family from Norway, its just I loved that country and though that it might be a good idea to go there yet stay close to my kid. Better think again!

From my own experience I would go and live in the UK. It is quite close to the Netherlands and a much better prospect than Sweden. I suspect anything you said of N also applies to S.

Over indulgent welfare systems without any demand of a return of service, which lead to contempt for the immigrant and a mutual lack of respect between the host and guest is at the source of evil in both cases. Only a total about turn and a kiss goodbye to socialism can change the future of N, S or Europe as a whole.
