"However, coming across "The Local" and then this forum I started reading it on daily basis, the comments on news and posts freaked me out, it sounds Sweden is even more racist than Holland, lol."
There are 2 different sides to the local. The News where the racists and trolls hang out with nothing but negativity to all things Swedish and these forums where we try to be helpful to people. |

My advice would be to stay close to your child and get some counseling. Once your on the road to a new life things will be a lot better.

World and life are what YOU make of it.
The only question that should concern you is: what kind of life, if you want it, in Sweden do you to live? Racist people are everywhere. But so are kind-hearted and graceful people, too. |

Moving to Sweden?
NO There is not a big difference between The Netherlands and Sweden based on what you tell about the people. And travel from The Netherlands to another country will be cheapest than travel from Sweden. |

Back in Israel we had an old Dutch man living in the neighborhood for as long as I remember, and he was always treated like one of us What diversity you have. yes there is Israeli-Palestinian conflict but that is a very different story No it's not.

These welfare systems are why the Nordics have the highest standards of living in the world. It's up to the immigrants to prove themselves and not the other way around. There are many immigrants who become perfect members of the system and some who do not. These people will be resented and rightly so. |

Kaethar...thanks, you said it. Sweden have enough welfare recipients, don't need more.

@Kaethar: it actually matters what type of immigrant you are. They are not all classed the same, to the dismay of those immigrants who actually come here for love reasons or for work or entrepreneurship. If you come here as a refugee or with a need for a safe haven you don't have to prove anything to get everything, including a pension.
So anyway, if you come here to work, please do...with such generosity we need everyone we can get to pay for it. See http://tinyurl.com/yejgrcy: Note that this is IF you are born AFTER 1938. That's a number of ex-housewifes who are now retired get ZERO but a refugee who is retired and born after 1938 gets EVERYTHING!

Ooh Lord, you do sound like an idiot..
I´m Dutch myself, and I can´t even feel offended by your story, it´s just too insane. As mentioned before, I think it has a lot to do with your attitude. Ofcourse there will be discrimination and stuff, but that´s everywhere. On the other hand, there are also a lot of good, nice, honest people out here. There are 16 million people living in The Netherlands, so I think you should be in the guinness book of records for living here so long and only meeting the bad ones. I wish you good luck in finding happiness, sounds like you´re gonna need it |

Well, I read few other posts on this forum and it seems that most of the negativity and all of this racism issue on The Local is done mostly by immigrants and some none educated Swedes.

Precisely.
Sweden is a great country to live in. It is not perfect, but a lot better than most countries. The Netherlands is very good to. I spent some time in Amersfort and got on well. The local is the worst place to get advice. A lot of bigots who have never even been to Sweden make comments in the local. |

Strange comments on NL. I find dutch people in general to be friendly but blunter then us anglos. Certainly not backstabbing. Are you projecting your relationship issues onto the general population.

This is tough, but I think you should go to a local family counselling centre and may be they can help you with decision making. |

I like your observations, Hairdont. When I became able to read Swedish pretty well I finally realized that the average Aftonbladet reader in Sweden would be the average FOX News watcher if they were born in the USA.
I've also seen this when living in Taiwan when some people tried to recruit me into a specific Buddhist-based-but-not-really spiritual sect - I was actually baptized into it without realizing what was going on until it was all over with. Though their sect was Buddhist-based, were they Americans those same people who did that to me would probably have become Mormon or Jehovah's Witnesses. It's funny because people like to think that they are drawn to their beliefs because of what those beliefs are, but often it is simply more that they have a certain type of personality that relates to society in a certain way and are drawn to that position in society. |
