Thanks for the replies! So using a VPN/proxy server can I access the UK Sky channels somehow? Or is that a job for a satellite dish?

For Sky you need a satellite dish and a sky subscription from a UK address

I use ibVPN service and they provide some fast UK servers. Good option and low costs.

Byke - do you check the problem with customer support. I use them and two times there have been problems and they have switched the server and all is fine again

There is a Sky iPhone app which claims "The first live television iPhone application has been launched, allowing users to watch live TV coverage any time and anywhere they want."
Note "anywhere" implying that you do not need to be in the UK, but it's a paid subscription. Not that I am a fan of the Murdochracy or the iCult. There may be a Sky app for Android phones too, which I know support HDMI out for connection to a TV set, don't know if the iPhone has HDMI. |

That sounded promising but, according to the Sky website, it's £6 a month and you only get sky news and sports channels. (Sky Sports 1 (live), Sky Sports 2 (live), Sky Sports 3 (live), Sky Sports 4 (live), Sky Sports News (live), Sky Sports Xtra (live), Sky News (live), At The Races (live), ESPN (live), CNN (live), WWE (looped))
Not to mention they still restrict block some content (HBO Boxing, NBA, MLB, Serie A and NCAA) Edit: Seems there's an entertainment pack too.. for another £6 a month. (MTV Music (live) , MTV Snax (looped), Comedy Central (looped), Sky Movies News (looped), Boomerang (looped), [adult swim](looped), Nickelodeon (looped), Cartoon Network (looped). |

Use http://www.strongvpn.com , which is $55 per year. Can change proxy to other UK servers and US. Hasn't let me down yet and the support sems quite good.TVCatchup.com uses a different type of technology and as a result I cannot use it via VPN. But via iPlayer and iTV etc, it works really well on my iPad. Also have Filmon, but when there are popular events such as England vs Ukraine, Match of the Day, F1 racing, it is very unreliable. It seems that too many people are connecting from abroad and then either the channel disappears from the list or it will display an error and ask you to try again. But for watching normal TV, it works quite well, although I'm not sure how long they can continue as I suspect it is breaching some licensing agreement when transmitting UK TV outside the UK. |

During the England v Ukraine game we had filmon Sweden v France on my Samsung Galaxy S3 in the tudor arms so we could keep an eye on Sweden's game (which affected Englands destiny). The Sweden v France game was not aired live on tv there.
It worked brilliantly. I would never use it to watch England as I will most times be in the Tudor to watch on proper tv with the lads. Filmon have found a legal loophole so I am not expecting this to go off air anytimes soon |
