Rubbing alcohol är handdesinficerings medel helt enkelt.

Yet another thread where the OP asks a question and then either

1) Doesn't have the decency to respond to those helping out
or
2) Is so fucking thick they don't understand the responses
or
3) Is a troll.
or
4) Is all of the above.

Why people on here take the time to help morons that can't help themselves is beyond me. Some people obviously have very little to do in their lives.

Thanks again for your replies everyone, I appreciate. It's also nice to know I'm not the first person puzzled by this. Funny that some of you even brought it from home, I'll know for next time!

I did not need the rubbing alcohol for an urgent or medical reason. It's for an 'arts and crafts' project of sorts, to fix smashed blushes and eyeshadows. (Great trick, see http://www.ehow.com/how_2091109_fix-broken-makeup.html and http://www.thebeautybargainista.com/2009/0...eyeshadow.html)

As a few posters mentioned, I tried my luck at Apoteket again. The person helping me reacted as if I had just asked for crack cocaine, but then sold me a product called Isopropylalkohol, which is too strong and I will need to dilute, and is sold here for industrial uses. She said rubbing alcohol as such did not exist in Sweden, and after asking me 65 times what I needed it for, would not let me leave with it without THREE PAGES of safety information...

Thanks again for the help smile.gif

Isopropylalkohol is 99.7% pure 2-propanol. Like You say Apoteket makes it and carries it, but not on the shelf, you have to ask for it. We use it to clean circuit boards and electronics before soldering.

ive looked for it too and havent been able to find it.

we use it for disinfecting household surfaces, cleaning make up, cleaning flesh wounds... anything that needs to be disinfected basically. its much cheaper and more effective than "disinfecting products" such as lysol. its also much better for earth as its just, well, alcohol! you could use something like vodka or everclear, but that would be defeating the cost benefit... not that you can even get everclear in sweden biggrin.gif

I was going to joke and say you probably need a prescription as you do for ibuprofen... but it appears it isn't far from the truth. smile.gif Swedes!

graphix, you don't need a prescription to get ibuprofen. In fact you ca buy 400mg here on the shelf, whereas in the UK they only have 200mg on the shelf. You have to go to the counter and ask there to get it.

But then Spain has 600mg and 800mg ibuprofen pills.

Speaking of important products unavailable in Sweden, low-dose aspirin (75-81 mg), has been well documented to help prevent cardiac and stroke.
In England or the U.S., you can buy it in any pharmacy. Costs v. little. No prescription necessary.
Apoteket never heard of it.

Streja, you must have made another reading mistake.Ibuprofen is not only available as 200mg packets "on the shelf" in the UK.

Good point! Perhaps now when there is no longer a monopoly this will be introduced. I know that Boots asked costumers for products they wanted when they first started up here. Go and tell them! smile.gif

My bad. My coordinator had studied in Finland and told me that he needed a prescription, and then blanketed the rest of Scandinavia to be the same. After reading the prohibited items list for Sweden previously, I believed him without much more research and thought I had simply overlooked it. Good, one less thing I have to bring! Although I would be curious as to what they think about Dr. Bronner's soap, as it is made from hemp seed. It's the only thing I've found that I don't get razor burn from.

All kinds of cannabis seeds are legal so that should not be a problem.

Maybe I'm a little late but I think what you are looking for is Isopropanol and it is sold at Apoteket. It's the stuff you use to clean tone heads on cassette players and the lenses on projectors.
