What you have asked is just far too vague a question. I mean "Any Asian people in Sweden"?. Come on. And while being almost as vague, a question about how a certain ... (show full quote)

Hi,

I am sorry if there is anyway I have not made my question clear enough, anyway, if you did pay full attention to my question. I was asking

- Are there "MANY" Asian people in Sweden. While the word "many" might be a bit abstract, but that's the whole point of trying to get answers from the Forum. I was not asking if there are ANY Asian people in Sweden as such question is totally ridiculous.

- I was also asking if you guys know what kind of jobs these "Asian" are doing in Sweden, so I could get a better picture of how Asian are doing there.

I was also targeting especially for Chinese/HongKongese as I have mentioned in the question.

Oh and I really mean Asian in the question because I want to know if there are many Japanese, Korean, Singaporean, etc.

Hi, thanks for such an informative reply.

Haha, I got a picture from you guys that the Swedish guys love the Thai girls. Just out of curiosity, have you seen the other way round (I mean Asian guy, Chinese, Korean, Japanese dating Swedish girls there?)

I am surprised to hear that Swedes have very high thoughts of East Asians, may I know why? OH do you know, in general, are the local Swedes opened to the idea that Asian (Or CHinese, Japanese, Korean) immigrating to Sweden?

Thanks.

lol. anyway, to answer your question seriously, it depends on which part of Sweden you are talking about. I'm Asian, from Malaysia and my partner is from Singapore. We live in Malmö. There are many Thais here (esp women) but i don't see too many chinese or other southest or east asians. There are however, lots of West Asians (IRaq, Iran etc).

How are we viewed? Well, we both speak fluent English and are attempting to learn Swedish, i would say we are treated well. We are not looked down upon or whatever, if that is what you are concerned about. The Swedes have been accommodating (switching to English everytime we are near).

I hold a professional job as i am trained in the legal field, so i am on equal standing with my other Swedish colleagues. My company consists of about 85% Swedes, but we are treated equally and earn the same amount as the locals do.

Are you coming here or already here?

(N.B. I am not Asian.)

Based on moderate amount of observation, Asian people in Sweden spend their time playing Roulette and to a lesser extent Blackjack, Carribean Stud and Sick Bo where available. Seriously, if you visit any of the Casinos at off-peak hours, 60-90 percent of the clients will be Chinese or south-east Asian.

You should be aware of the fact that Sweden has one of the highest divorce rates in the world. There are also more single households in Sweden than in any other country in Europe.

It is very hard to establish a relationship to begin with, but keeping it alive is an almost impossible feat. The Swedish society provides a hostile environment for relationships.

If a foreigner meets a Swede abroad and they move to Sweden then the relationship will almost surely fall apart. This is often the case even if they had no issues before they moved to Sweden.

The reason why Swedes have high thoughts of East Asians is because they perceive them as intelligent and hardworking. Usually, if East Asians live in Sweden then they are either studying at the university or have a good job.

Immigration is a very sensitive topic in Sweden, but if you are well-educated and have a good job then you have nothing to worry about. It is also advisable to you to move to one of the larger cities in Sweden.

Also, please make sure that you have arranged for accommodation before you come here! This cannot be stressed enough. If you have any other questions then I'd be happy to answer them.

Huh? How so? Where does this come from? What does "hostile environment for relationship" mean?

In Lund, there are several Asian students. I don't see too many others unless they are university staff or running a restaurant. It's very hard to engage them in conversation and make friends. More so than Swedes even.

There is not much else to life in Sweden besides working or studying. A Swede who is not doing any of these things is in a state of 'utanförskap', a term coined to describe the devoid existence such a person would find themselves in.

The social and cultural climate is poor in Sweden. Consequently, being so engrossed in personal pursuits leave little room for family life or spiritual development.

Not surprisingly, the divorce rates surge during the summer vacation as that is when a couple actually have to spend time together and not only share the same bed.

They have not built their relationship on a lasting foundation, only on a basis of financial security. Women and men are taught to be independent and pursue a lifestyle of hedonism.

If the smallest disagreement occurs in a relationship then the mentality in place is to find a new partner. There are some people who have a new partner every week.

There are BARELY any Asians in Stockholm. You can see 80% of the Asian population of the city if you take a walk to the Casino on a Saturday night. Most of them are Thai, with a few Chinese here and there. Also a very very small small number of Vietnamese. There are also those Asians who have been adopted by Swedish parents. But they are hardly Asian, more Swedish with small eyes.
As for the jobs they do...Asian Restaurant, Manicure (Nail Extensions), and Massage seem to be the big three.

Im indonesian, but i noticed girls does checkin me out when im walkin in the city/on the bus etc. I think Asians are doing pretty well here, most of them are well educated ( the young ones or adopted ones) and im also getting offered good jobs here and there ( i barely speaks swedish) but when youre educated people will want you anyway...so i dont think it has gotta do with race and skin color.
