Hello,
I am moving to Stockholm for work at the end of January (from Atlanta GA) and need to provide a prioritized list of apartment locations from the following list of options: Södermalm, Östermalm, Vasastan and Kungsholmen. My wife and I have read up on these neighborhoods as much as possible, but most of the information focuses on bars/nightlife. We have a nine month old baby and two dogs, and currently live in a very walkable part of Atlanta. We would like to be close to the blue line if possible, and would enjoy not needing car at all if that is an option. Our rent will be subsidized for the first 6 months, so any recommendations on the best neighborhoods for young families with parks, playgrounds, daycares etc would be much appreciated Thank you, |

All areas are fine, however good luck finding anything to rent.

The apartment company we are working with has locations in those areas, so we should have spots available in each area they listed

They are all good areas, but vasastan is where I would personally choose.
It's very close, family type of area and has a big park nearby. Ostermalm is often considered snooty or cold. Sodermalm is a nice area but further away and is more bohemian Kungsholmen can also be nice, central ... Slightly dull. All good and safe areas ... And I am sure others may have different views ... But this is my view. |

everywhere in the city limits is "close" and easily traveled, in other words, all of those neighborhoods are terrific areas.
with a dog, you might want to prioritize where you can walk the dog and even let it run. the large open area gärdet is popular with dogs (keep in mind that stockholm has a leash law, though there are areas (lke gärdet) that people regularly have dogs off their leash. the southern shore of södermalm ,especially between skanstull and hornstull allows for nice walks for dogs/babies. the parks/playgrounds you will appreciate most with a young child is (in no particular order) humlegården (östermalm), rålambshovsparken, kronobergsparken (kungsholmen) vasaparken (vasastan) högalidsparken, nytorget (södermalm). if you need to be on the blue line, then i'd say anywhere between rådhuset and friedhemsplan would have to be ideal. |

We have an 8 month old and live on Kungsholmen close to Fridhemsplan and really like it. As one poster mentioned, Kungsholmen could be considered "dull" relative to the other options, but it is very central and has an abundance of good dining/cafe/shopping options. The relative calmness and proximity to green areas is something we really enjoy. There are 3 playgrounds and 2 parks within a 5 min walk. Rålambshovsparken is quite large and is good for long walks with the dog. At the west end there is a dog park where you can let your dog run without a leash.
Of all the places you mentioned, Kungsholmen would also be the best for access to the blue line. In none of the areas would you need a car. As for day cares, we are just going through that process now as well and I can't tell you how it would work for you coming in from "outside" the system. My wife is handling that, so I can't speak to how it would work. PM me if you would like to meet up with a fellow southerner (Chas, SC) for a fika on your arrival. |

Inner city is shite if you have a young family.
If you like wide open spaces with lots of greenery and activities for kids during the summer then Akalla is perfect. |
