They probably have no idea about the laws.

StephenR, is there a good site with clear info about this that she can show the employer? I don't know myself and feel sorry for her.

@StephenR

I've been walking this city for weeks, looking for work, saying it like it is to Managers, telling them I dont have the number YET, but I WILL have it, the experience I have and all, I'd almost work for free at this stage, just to have something to do I suppose. It's just hard hearing " no " everyday, but hey! I still have to try hard smile.gif Matter of the right time, and the right place.

There's nowhere that's particularly definitive, it's all rather implied. The main argument is that EU citizens are not required to register with MV until after three months yet in the meantime they are allowed to work. But without registration, they cannot get a PN. So their fallback has to be a coordination number - a number that from what I can see, Skatteverket don't just hand out without a valid reason such as a work contract. It might be true that in order to employ knagle on a permanent basis and to enroll her in tax system that they would need a PN or a Samordningsnummer but she won't get one until they say she needs one for work. So either it's a Catch 22 situation and the reality is that EU citizens actually need to register with MV, get a PN etc or the fact is that an employer can take someone on without a PN or SN, even if the person involved has to apply for one immediately.

Thank you for helping! smile.gif I will look into this. Has anyone heard of platsbanken? I must have applied for 50 jobs and no reply, not even a " No " Its really unprofessional, how is someone to know wether they have the job or even an interview? I wonder could I become a personal assistant? Elderly people, or perhaps people with a disability?

knagle, platsbanken is the state run job site which most people use so companies get thousands of job applications and it takes a long time for them to answer. Imagine, they can get applications from all over Sweden. Be prepared. They might not even reply to you.

Thanks! I did think about that, but thought it would be nice to know where I stand. I wonder is it because I smile when I come into places and apply for jobs, does this put the Manager off? biggrin.gif Maybe I shouldnt be so friendly, Im not quite sure how to approach it anymore. It seems the smile, be friendly and yourself approach isnt working!

knagle, nah. Smiling is good. It's just that it's difficult for anyone to get a job at the moment, and even harder for an immigrant.

Streja, true that! Would you by any chance have any ideas about jobs that might require English? Im not picky at all when it comes to work, I think my little dream of helping out at a international daycare centre has long left my head, thats a little too far out of my reach! Time to be alot more realistic biggrin.gif

I work for them in Oct and Nov, without PN, now they needed again but all of a sudden the lack of PN was a problem... SV wants us to work to get the PN but u cant work without!!! So frustrating aye sad.gif I dont know what the solution is.

QUOTE (knagle @ 27.Feb.2012, 04:32 PM) *
I was offered a trial shift at Mississippi Inn, and was very excited about it, I went and bought a white shirt for the work uniform, and learnt off their alcohol menu, and foo ... (show full quote)

Why did you get denied a person number? You're here to live with your sambo, right? So, once registered at MV for the sambo permit (remember, even if you're EU, your sambo Swede doesn't count as EU for that purpose, so you need a sambo permit unless you moved with a job offer, or you're a student, or you have your own funds etc etc). Once you have your sambo permit (the single best permit to have, because you're automatically entitled to healthcare after that), the person number should be quick and easy to get.

That is, unless you get the same numb-nut who dealt with my app and initially mistakenly refused me. I had to kick her bum good and proper.

Yes JulieLou! I did get dealt with a " numb-nut" ! They denied it on the grounds that I didnt provide enough documentation at the time I applied for the person number, and wrote down my reason was to work. Although the elderly lady at skartverket ( i caaaant spell that ) place said what I brought, was more than enough, and its all sorted. So today I went to the other "skartverket" place in Medborplatsen to get a temporary number. I tried to explain my situation to one of the " helpful" people who was serving me at the counter, but mid- explanation she said " Can I speak now? " She was probably THE most UNHELPFUL person in the whole office. To make it worse, my partner and I called them, and told them the problem with the application, and one man in particular working in this help line place for this skartverket people, said that he would help us, that there is a way around it, and he personally sent me the application for the temp. person number, and his signature stamped on a piece of paper. We told the woman serving us this, and she just kept blabbing on about how " wrong " I was. I told her " How am I supposed to be in this country, and secure work, and pay taxes like most other people, If I cannot get the number, and how can I get the person number, if they demand to see papers signed by an employer, this is a unhelpful cycle". I dont know what to do now, Im awfully confused.

Bureaucratic cycle of shit. Sorry for the language! Little bit sick of this continual dissapointment.

I understand completely, It's awfully difficult, do you have your person number now? Or are you, like me, struggling with this? I think the best thing for me to do, is to tell them how to do their job properly, since they don't know how.
