Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone had gone through the online application process yet and if they could share their experiences about waiting time and the process. I will start by sharing my experience although it is not yet completed. I first applied online January 10th,2012. My husband received his online questionnaire the next day and filled it up and sent it the same day. I then got sent an email a week later on 19th of January to call the embassy and book an interview date. I got my interview on the 9th of February. It took about 30min and was asked basic questions. I was told that it should take about a month to get the decision back. So I am waiting for March 10th to come by really fast. The waiting is the most annoying and irritating phase of the whole process. For those who plan to go through with the online application, I would strongly recommend it so far. Please feel free to ask me questions about my experience. Thank you for your feedback. |

I too applied via the online application system. In fact, I applied on the very first day it became operational. I applied on december 6th, an email was sent to my Swedish fiance and she completed her part of the application on Dec. 8th. A week after i received the email requesting that I setup an interview with the embassy which I did on Dec. 28th and took my biometrics the same day.
So the paperwork goes very fast but after that everything has slowed down. Since Dec 28th to today my application hasnt been assigned a case officer. My fiance calls migrationsverket every other day and the status remains the same. They keep on saying we should receive our decision by March 7th but its getting hard to believe that when no case officer has been assigned. I hope we get a case officer real soon |

I have also gone through the same process I applied 8th Jan I think, Last week I was at the embassy for my interviews fingerprints ect, But I find it hard to be leave you don’t have a person assigned to your case.
The very friendly lady at the embassy who even changed her lunch break so the interview would fit me, asked did I have any questions, One I asked did my partner have to attend an interview which I through I had read somewhere, she said it could be possible. I also asked her about my card which she said would be issued to me no more than three weeks after a decision had been made, as Sweden sends them out ever fortnight, and she said if I have any questions once I leave, that I could ring and she would give me the contact to the person assigned to my case, which she could see on the computer when I was there for my interview. But she also could not tell me how long i would wait for my decision but said it was possible they would take the full 3 months. |

i did that too 9 months ago, im a non EU and my fiance Swedish, we did an interview and they had to take my fingerprints and a photo. basically they will give you the application number that you can follow up on the net. but mostly they will contact your Swedish partner via email. my decision came out 2 weeks ago and granted for Permanent Uppeholstilstand
because we have been living together for more than 2 years in Malaysia. once its decided they will make the card and the person who takes in charge of your case will contact your partner if they want the card to be sent to your local Swedish Embassy or your house. i should be getting my card by the end of the month and moving to Sweden in a couple of months. yes you do have to wait for 8-9 months without any news. some one from migrationsverket eventually will contact your swedish partner via email. if they still need more documents to follow up or its completed for decision |

This thread is about the new Online Application process which the Migrationsverket started in December 2011. So, its not what you went through 9 months ago since it wasnt operational then. In addition, the new online process only takes 3 months to get a decision. |

Right on NewYorkman!!!!
I was told at the embassy that a case officer is assigned to the case once the application is sent. However, the work load of the case officer is what slows the process. We get so many different feedbacks from MV that we don't really know. I was also told that the process time is dependent of the country of origin of the application as some countries have less people that marry a swede. Let us keep our fingers crossed. I will keep you updated if I get any feedback from MV. Best of luck and patience to all. |

Is it not safe to assume he's from the US considering his user ID is "newyorkman"?

We received the approval last week-wooohooooooooooooo!!
To give you an idea about timelines: -Applied late November to the NYC consulate. Note that we went through the old process, not online -Went for interview at the consulate Dec 6 -Received notification from MV that they had received our application- Jan 09 -Got the approval Feb 13 We actually already live together here in the US and have been together for about two years, I don't know if that helped to speed up the process. I would recommend that you also keep up the contact with MV, that may also have helped (maybe they wanted to get us off their back It was killing me not knowing when we could expect it, especially when there are so many things to plan, jobs, apartment leases etc etc.., The best of luck to everyone!!! |

It's great hearing that some of you have recieved decisions via the online application!!! I applied on January 11th, my boyfriend submitted his portion the same day. I recieved an email on Feb. 2nd requesting I schedule an interview as soon as possible. Through a round about process with the San Francisco office I was sent to the local Seattle Consulate and made an appointment on their next business day (Feb. 14th). The interview was short...very short. She asked me a few "control questions": why I wanted to move, did I know where I was going to live. NOT ONE THING ABOUT MY RELATIONSHIP, which was shocking to me. I felt like I was pushing things on her, I kept pulling out more photos, Skype logs, emails, text messages on my phone. She was very nice, and I'm pretty sure just humored me, by photocopying some of the times I brought along, and she said she would write in our file that she had seen all the things I had shown her on my phone. The majority of the interview was questions to my 5 yr old daugther. Again, no questions about her relationship or my relationship with our Swedish loved one. Mainly questions about her: her name, her best friends name, her grandparents names, her school, her teacher's name, the name of the town we live in (I had to help on that question, as my daugther is only 5 and had no idea what the name of the town is...just that we live near Seattle), did she have her own room, did anyone else live with us, etc. Basically it felt like they were making sure I was actually her mother. Total time interviewing: maybe 10 minutes. After she copied everything she told me that she didn't have much experience with the new online application, but that she had been hearing that we could expect about a month turn around time. We are so happy to have everything on our end completed, but waiting is always the hardest. It's nice to know we are in the home stretch. Now we are contemplating how quickly we can get all the moving details take care of once we recieve our decision, so that we can start our lives together after being apart for so long
