I'm starting to wonder if I've met britvik in the 80's. At school. There was a semi cool Brit who showed up once talking about Lucy in the sky with diamonds and how that song was all about drugs. But I suppose there are more Brits than him north of Uddevalla. But that old?

Goodnight...

You will perhaps be reading this later in the day, after getting some much needed beauty sleep, But me - semi cool and talking about some Lucy - no way deary. But because I was something of a stickler for discipline in class, I was often referred to as 'den vräsiga engelsmannen' by my pupils angry.gif , which I took as a compliment. Also, you'd be surprised just how many Brits there are living north of Uddevalla - and south of the town, too -of all ages. biggrin.gif

coming back to FnC----
I find quality very inconsistent here in the 'brit' pubs (down in lund/malmö)
10 years ago when Id arrived fresh from UK, the Bishops in lund did a reasonable FNC for 78kr
Its now about 150sek and the quality is very inconsistent with the best days still being naff!
In the worst ever delivery of the dish I got 2 fishfingers as the fish!!! Appalling!
Their is also some kebabs shop here selling the aforementioned 'fish finger with French fries and mayo' as purportedly English FnC

I have since bought a fritös for 500kr and I make my own and cook it for friends and also strangers through a social meetup group! Ive had 25+ happy peeps!
Guinness and a tad of vinegar in the batter, quality rapeseed oil and decent potatoes individually selected and fresh fish are the keys too a good dish!
Will be doing a Great British food night on 30/3 in Lund for anyone interested!

I'm no chef, but even I can follow this recipe and it comes out nicely every single time. Just add homemade mushy peas, tartare sauce and a wedge of lemon.

I know it's a Jamie Oliver recipe, but i'm still not sure I can trust a British recipe using american measurements...

Glad you said this 007 . I haven't followed the whole thread but was gobsmacked by the attack on streja and couldn't find any "vitriol" or indeed even a rant ... (show full quote)

oops, missed your post last night. i was too busy being offended by streja's vitriol and vapidly offensive remarks about lazy british cooks.

i think there's been such a vacuum for intellectually stimulating debate that even reasonable posters have slid into attack the ovaries mode.

I think now I have just seen the reason for Streja's attitude - she puts lemon on her fish 'n chips. Therein lies the answer.

The rest of the world has decent taste, so lemon is more a preferable dressing. In fact its my favourite! Fish and chips, a healthy dose of lemon topped of with an unhealthy dose of salt.

Only the British would prefer fish and chips topped with a serve of sour grapes or really, really old rotten beer! laugh.gif

Ahhh the tasty moderkaka. I love it served with lingonberry jam. A Swedish classic!

Or you could try the spanish variation called Placenta Ajillo.

It has to be better than ruining fish and chips with stale, rotten beer! laugh.gif

But you need atleast two thermometers in each male dinner guest's rectum to measure the level of humour before saying bon appetit!

Only required for the British ones, judging by this thread! biggrin.gif

I usually have the "rotten beer" on both fish and chips although, If I have lemon available, I'll put some on the fish rather than vinegar... either way, they're both acids.

I had a batch of homebrew go wrong once and I ended up with 40 pints of vinegar... enough for a life time of fish and chips for a few families... or a week for a single Glaswegan.

Judging by this thread you should consider making that mistake more often! Bottle the results and sell it to some of the posters here!

Snoods homebrewed malt vinegar...

You never know it could catch on! smile.gif

I think Streja had mentioned previously on this thread that she thought fish from fish and chips had breadcrumbs on (and helped soak up the fat) ... Which leads me to believe she may consider fish fingers to be what is used in fish and chips(A Swedish mistake). Obviously it' is not... But it sheds some light on the subject and can kind of explain her thought that lemon goes well with such.
