Hi everyone and thanks for reading!
I'm still wondering whether I shall bring my motorbike to Stockholm or not, and to decide I would like to know a few things about having a bike in Stockholm. Here are my doubts.
- I tried to find a motorbikers forum where I could ask all those things, but I've been unsuccessful so far. Do you know any?
- Would I need to pay a tax to drive in the centre (like cars)?
- Can motorbikes easily park in the city? Motorbike parkings? Is it allowed to park in the street?
- is it common for houses to have an underground garage? Are there many underground garages in the city were I could park my bike during the cold months?
Tack!! wink.gif

Tax: don't know, do not live in Stockholm
City Parking: generally most cities have parking spots for motorbikes, also almost all paid parking lots have bike designated spots too.
Underground Parking spots: subjective question... you get what you pay for. Expect to pay for a hired parking spot. Most bikers who do not have their own garage/barn hire a space from someone who has a garage or a barn. If you live in Stockholm, join a biker club and they will generally have members winter storage agreement with someone. Fees would be 1500-2000 per season.

What bike do you have?

Motorcycles are excluded from paying the congestion fee in Stockholm
This is good news.As for the weather,I'm gonna deal with it when I come to Stockholm in mid-May.My motorcycle(looking for a KTM 990 Adventure right now) will be brought in August
Sure it's gonna be generally really cold, but as long there is no ice on the road I guess motorcycling is feasible. We'll see!

Studded tires and heated grips take care of that last problem smile.gif
An alarm with gps plus immobilizer is not a bad idea.

An alarm with GPS? What for? Come on is Sweeden, people leave their push bikes unlocked and nobody nicks them! hehe

I have a Suzuki GS500 F, I guess 2000 for winter storage is affordable, how long does the real icy winter last for? I mean during how many months would my bike by locked into a garage?
Thanks for all the helpful info guys!!

If you are planning to live around Stockholm then from October to March you can expect varying degrees of snow and icy conditions. April can be touch and go but you will get some riding in.

As far as I can see you can only get 12 month insurance, there are no companies that I am aware of that will offer seasonal insurance.

How are you planning to bring your bike over? You going to ride it or ship it?

A KTM huh? I guess you must be a good mechanic so?

They make excellent enduro and cross bikes but their large trailies suck donkeys. Save your money and get a bus pass, you will get to your destination quicker.

Don't worry, just after 43000 kms on it,I'll have to leave my beloved 690 enduro before moving to Sweden. And my bike still has no mechanical issues.
I wish I could have it in Stockholm,it's so funny riding this bike
Anyway,hopefuly I'll get a 990 adventure by the end of summer.easy,if I find a job quickly.
It's obvious I have to avoid any BMW with Corbin seat rolleyes.gif

Nice clip, looks like fun, the 690 is the right bike for that.

Then you'll enjoy riding in Sweden, plenty of amazing gravel and forest tracks and all perfectly legal to ride on too. I have done a route from Bodo in Norway through to Umeå in Sweden using back roads, forest tracks and trails. Also, last Summer I did a route from East Coast in Sweden up to Murmansk in Russia. I can highly recommend that, the 990 would eat that route up considering the road surfaces between Ivalo in Finland and Murmansk (there was no road in many places). But the route back from Murmansk via the Kola Highway back to Salla in Finland was the best. We covered 1500kms that day on a mix of sand, stone and blacktop.

I can also recommend the Nord Kapp trip too, so long as you don't mind reindeer, elk and mozzies.

Am picking up my new Monster 796 from the dealer tomorrow biggrin.gif

Similar questions ... can anyone decode parking rules for motorbikes in Stockholm for me?
Do all the parking restrictions apply with regards to tickets (how do you fix a ticket to a bike?). I understand restrictions for no parking related to street cleaning etc would of course.

Are we allowed to park off the street? as in private area next to apartment buildings?
How is it from safety point of few? I understand will have to arrange something over winter.

Garage space associated with apartments is piracy on the high sees! My place asking for 3K/Month IF they had a spot available which they dont.
Why dont they take a kidney, one testicle and my first born while they are at it! angry.gif

what is the science around resident parking on the street? Boende ...
