As a Hungarian student about to graduate from a 4-year Bsc program in Architectural Engineering (half way between civil engineer and architecture), I have been admitted to Chalmers starting in september 2012.
I have heard Sweden has high unemployment for young people, and those not speaking the local language can get exceptionally hard. At the same time, I am optimistic that the construction industry is experiencing a boom, and I can start out without knowing Swedish. I am also optimistic that if I personally visit companies and potential employers then I have a higher chance of finding a job than submitting my CV to centralized jobseekers or headhunters. Furthermore, I am an ambitious goal-oriented person who has won a lot of academic awards. I am fluent in 3 languages (English, Hungarian, German), know some Slovenian, so I think I will be able to learn Swedish fairly quickly. Now my questions are: how realistic chances do I have of finding a job related to my industry with which I can sustain myself (about monthly 500 euros after tax)? Is it realistic to earn so much working part time (12-15 hours)? Which companies should I start looking when I get there? Is it a good idea to beat the competition by arriving in the middle of august before all the young people start to look for work? My only work experience is 1 year of tutoring physics (in the USA) and a couple weeks of site practice in construction (in Hungary and France). Thanks for your answers, Robert |
