Just posted this a few minutes ago but the thread seems to have vanished.

--------

When I moved here from the UK some years ago I kind of 'inherited' some cats which had lived in the house with the previous owner - didn't really worry about it at the time.

I'm heading back to the UK permanently and for many various reasons cannot take them with me.

I called 118 and was given the number of what appears to be the only cat shelter in Stockholm which wants around 2000 sek per cat (there are 5) and suggested that a better solution was to take them to the vet and have them put down.

This is gradually becoming an issue for me as there is no way that I can justify basically killing 5 animals but I'm running out of options. I even tried posting them on Blocket with no success. Even my neighbours seem to think the 'vet' treatment is the best option and one even volunteered to take them along for me if I couldn't handle it!!!!

I'm trying to do the responsible thing but not sure where to turn - does anyone know of another cat shelter / home that won't charge me 10,000 sek for taking them?? Any advice appreciated.

Most cat shelters demand money these days for people to abandon their animals - shelters get no funding and basically survive on donations and 5 cats is a huge number - basically you are being made to pay for their upkeep and verts fees in advance until new homes can be found which may take months or years for adult cats

Have you been through all of your friends and contacts to see if anyone will take any of the cats??

There's at least 2 cat homes in Stockholm that I know of:

Stockholms katthem (Fruängen)

Fisksätra katthem (in Fisksätra)
