So I recently applied (sent my resume only) for a job in Financial Services field and the next day I got a response from the recruiter, saying that they need my "application letter" as well.
My first question; I am assuming the application letter means "cover letter" here. Is that correct? The second question; I have heard that generally, cover letters in Sweden tend to be more personal than the ones in the US. Is that the case if you are submitting the cover letter for a more professional/white collar job? Could anyone give me some example cover letters? Thanks in advance. |

Sorry, not willing to give you a copy of my cover letter.
Keep it simple: 1. Introduce yourself and a little about when you moved to Sweden and why. i.e. I am married to a Swede and we moved here for better life style etc... 2. Explain your level of Swedish language i.e. proficient, intermediate, beginner. 3. A little about your work history. i.e. I have 15 years experience as XYZ for ABC company. 4. Why you want to work for that company, i.e. I enjoy the industry, have the right skills and have the ability to bring a different perspective etc etc.. All in all, keep it to 1 page, 3 paragraphs max. Keep it short and sweet. |

Also, keep the CV to 2 pages max. Swedes do not like a 4 page bragging session. If you feel you want to give more detailed information then on the cover letter include a url to your linkedin page or similar.
The trick is to give them just enough relevant info so that they become curious. |
