Question for anyone living in Sweden or experiencing this. Is it hard for an Ex-Pat American to find a job in Sweden if your Swedish isn't any good yet?
If you're a guy and you're used to supporting your family and you move to Sweden to be with your wife and her family and she's the one supporting you, do you find that weird? I would feel like I wasn't pulling my weight. Have any of you experience this problem or know anyone who has? What are your feelings on this? Enlighten me! Thank, Mike |

Question for anyone living in Sweden or experiencing this. Is it hard for an Ex-Pat American to find a job in Sweden if your Swedish isn't any good yet? Depends on your qualifications, both the field and depth. If you're a guy and you're used to supporting your family and you move to Sweden to be with your wife and her family and she's the one supporting you, do you find that weird? I'm not one of those, but it doesn't seem weird to me at all, no. I would feel like I wasn't pulling my weight. Have any of you experience this problem or know anyone who has? What are your feelings on this? Enlighten me! Would you feel the same if your wife were a stay at home mom and you worked? If not, then you are simply playing into extremely outdated gender stereotypes in my opinion. In Sweden, the role of a father in a child's life is considered important, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with a being stay at home dad. Just my opinion, however. |

I was able to find a (low-level) job without Swedish speaking skills, but I understand that that is unusual. And, yes, I did find it a bit weird to rely on my wife so much. I think it was a bit stressful on her as well.
But if there is where you really want to be, you make allowances. |
