Hej!

Does anyone have an idea of what the minimum rate of föräldrapenning is for those who haven't worked here / lived here very long? I'm waiting on FK to calculate what I'm entitled to but I'd like to do some digging myself but can't find any hard figures but rather references to 80% of this or that. The single figure I found was on a Swedish website talking about Sweden which gave a figure of €22.96 or 206 kr at today's rate which was a figure that my wife thought sounded right.

Does anyone have any info?

Stephen

For those who have never worked but are eligible for social insurance in Sweden (ie registered with försäkrigskassan) the minimum level is 180 kr/day

You can choose how you want to take it - ie how many days/week - if you take 7 days/week it comes out at about 5400kr/month before tax - some people choose to take a lower level ie 3 or 4 days/weeks to make it last longer

there are 4 months of reserved parental leave (2 months for mother/2 months for father) and you can split the remaindernas you want
- in total 12 months are earnings related (if eligible)
- 4 months at minimum level

Cheers for that Puffin. I did see that figure after I posted but still wasn't sure.

I'm only taking my tillfällig pappaledighet at the moment. I'm fascinated that FK want me to explain why I'm claiming for days before I actually registered - as if new parents have nothing better to be doing than to contact FK!

We had twins so I'm wondering if that affects the level of payment? I know we're entitled to an extra 180 days of leave between us and the barnbidrag will be more.

Having twins does not effect the daily rate.

The point of the parent money is that it releases you from work obligations, since it is effectively salary paid by the state, and not your employer. You dont get paid more from work for having twins! wink.gif

However, there is plus with twins. FK rules are that the parents cannot both stay home with the same child. But You have 2 children, so You can both stay home together for some periods, just make sure that you register 1 kid each for that time wink.gif

Shame but I expected that. The decision makers in FK should have twins - they might pay up twice if they only knew how hard work it is! wink.gif

I did know about the fact that we can take time together which is really nice though haven't made any decisions yet - we want to see how we get on over the first few weeks to see if it's necessary.

You get an extra 180 days with the birth of twins - so instead of 480 + 10 daddy days you get 660 + 10 daddy days

These days you are also allowed to take up 30 parental days together with both getting parental leave at the same time - which may be useful with twins
