Indeed, the body is a far more complicated machine than that, sorry Skogsbo but you are wrong ... on someone "normal" it might work but someone with weight problems

Nope, I'm not wrong, are you telling me that because some large people have found excuses for their size that scientific research carried out over the passed 200yrs, by hundreds of professors is wrong. You CAN'T create energy (calories,joules,lipids.. what ever) in the human body and store it as fat UNLESS it have been EATEN by that individual. It is simply impossible to create something from nothing. How many of your larger people who have hormone problems, stress, mental health issue, sleep problems etc.. have an active lifestyle and eat healthly? Probably none. Most probably don't exercise for variety of reasons and comfort eat? Don't kid yourself and others. |

Don't kid yourself and others. He isn't. And neither is gromit64. This guy is a friend of mine, and I have seen how healthy he looks now. He is bursting with energy and very lean. The weight is dropping off him, and all he has done is drop sugar. Honestly. The evidence speaks for itself. |

To the OP: A few tips.
- Stop drinking soda, even the diet or "max" varieties are nothing but empty calories. Drink water, unsweetened tea or skim milk (or a milk alternative) instead. A good substitute for soda is plain or carbonated water with slices of lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruit etc. or a few mashed berries in it. Watch out for juice too, even though it's better than soda the natural sugars in fruit can add up if you drink a bunch of it. -Either stop eating or really reduce the amount of dairy products in general. Adults don't need dairy at all and there are a lot of bad fats and cholesterol in dairy. There are a ton of others foods you can eat to get your calcium and vitamin D. If you like creamy soups, you can get the same texture by pureeing some / all of the veggies. -Eat more protein, it's good for energy and helps keep you full. Peanut butter is good but make your own or buy the natural stuff that doesn't have a ton of sugar added. -Any pasta, bread or cereal you eat should be wholegrain. If you're in Sweden that can be a bit hard (I've never seen 100% wholegrain here at the store) but get as high of a % as you can. - Use olive oil instead of butter when cooking and use those little sprayers too, they cut the amount of oil used a lot. -Don't use creamy dressing on your salads, eat it plain or use a little bit of vinegar and oil. -Stop or reduce the amount of alcohol you drink. It's a bunch of empty calories and when you're tipsy or hungover you're willpower goes out the window. -Keeping a food journal really helps a lot of people as well. It really helps you keep track of how much calories, fat, fiber and protein you're really eating everyday. -Get one of those serving size charts and have it in the kitchen where you can see it all the time. Most people eat way more than they should. Using smaller plates can actually help with this and make you think that you've eaten more. -Exercise more. Walking is good, but you need to try and get your heartrate up for at least 30 minutes most days of the week. Weight training is also important in helping to lose weight, look more toned and being more healthy. -You might also see if you're sensitive to milk or wheat. I know there's a lot of different opinions on whether or not certain foods can cause meaningful inflammation or not, but from personal experience, I think it does. I took an herbal class and we discussed this during the course. I had signs of a milk sensitivity and another woman in the class had signs of a wheat sensitivity. She cut out wheat totally and lost about 30 pounds in 6 months, her skin also looked way better. I removed dairy from my diet and went from a size 6 to a size 2 in about six weeks. My allergies and stomach got way better and most of the redness in my face went away. That was 5 years ago and every now and then I'll eat a piece of pizza or some icecream and the redness and congestion comes back immediately and lasts for a few days. -You can't think of these changes as a diet. It has to be a lifestyle change. After a few weeks it gets way easier, your body wants "healthy" food, you feel restless if you haven't worked out that day and super sugary, greasy, fatty food sounds disgusting. Good luck! p.s. If you like baking, you can usually replace most or even all of the fat in recipes with mashed banana or unsweetened, homemade applesauce. You can also usually use just half (or less) of the sugar called for in recipes without compromising any texture and it'll still be sweet, just not rot your teeth sweet. |

he has probably lost weight because by cutting out sugar, he is consuming less energy than he burns each day. If he cut out anything that created this deficit, then he would loose weight. It has nothing to do with sugar, it's great it is working for him, he will feel better because his body won't be carrying extra weight all day, imagine having a bag on your back weighing all those kilos.. But, don't pretend or imagine that sugar is some sin. Fat is far far worse, even if you are thin and eat lots of fat, it's still bad for you, because of cholesterol and the fat itself lining your arteries, even if you don't gain weight. Trans fats are by far the worse. Artificial sugars do damage to the brain, this is known, but scientists don't even understand this fully yet, because it's a fairly new thing. If I was your friend I would eat sugar and cut out all the artificial crap. Sugar is processed, in the sense that it is removed from the cane or beet, but it's no different to turning grains in flour etc. Neither compares the processing carried out to all your diet, low sugar and lite products. Of which many are known to cause neurological problems in the long run, memory loss and other stuff. |

I agree on this point. And I believe he doesn't eat artificial sweeteners anyway. I must admit I have had a diet coke habit for years, and let's face it, we all know aspartame etc is bad for you, so I am cutting that aswell. Hope to completely get rid of it soon. |

Now why people are overweight is for 1 of 2 reasons:. 1. They are lazy (not burning enough energy). 2. They are greedy (consuming more energy than they need) Forget this guy. Living a healthy lifestyle is not a religious experience (7 deadly sins: sloth and greed). It is about loving yourself and valuing yourself enough to take action. Some of the fattest people I know are the most hard-working people I know. The reason they are fat, is due to working at the office 7 days a week, 12 hours a day. They work so much that there is little time to take care of themselves. So, the lazy line just does not work. |

What you experience here is NOT uncommon. I forgot the chemistry of it, but the human body and mind become very excited by this sort of high fat food. Because, back in the days when food was not readily available on shelves, high fat foods were not always easy to come by. So when some is found, you are mentally rewarded, so that you will eat more at the next opportunity, and this is what forms your craving. you body wants it because it doesn't know when you'll get more. Unfortunately we just haven't evolved to deal with the foods we have today. Most people have this however some people have a much more heightened reaction to this sort of food, you are not alone, it is common. What you need to do is identify another food type which can satisfy this craving and replace the crappy food, you might like to try something yoghurt, a glass of milk or fruit.
Also I have one more question, While you are having your lunch or dinner - Do you finish and go to wash your hands even if you are still not full (Not fully satisfied: A bit h

Portion control is a very important factor. I usually do not take more, this is mainly because of the way we plan our food. Typically any given meal we cook will make food for two evenings (4, perhaps 5 servings). If i take too much one day, then there'll not be enough for me the next day. When you dish up your food, be realistic with your portion size, be honest with yourself, you should be able to tell the difference between what you need, and what you want. Serve your portion and don't go back for more. Make sure that you always have something to drink at the same time as you eat, a glass of water or a cup of tea/coffee or a beer from time to time (beware though, beer contains more calories than you'd think). The bulk of the liquid should help to give you that full up feeling with minimal calorific impact. |

read tips before of drinking a pint of water 30mins before your meal, plus use a slightly smaller plate if portioning up is an issue, it seems to be instinct to fill our plates rim to rim! I just eat 2nd and 3rds anyway so that won't work on me. |

To the OP: Forget all the crap the amateur nutritionists here tell you. Just eat regular, varied, normal sized meals and increase you exercise. Following a diet will just make you unhappy and gain weight in the end. Exercise is the key.

I have dropped a ton of weight and the only thing I did was stop eating sugar. The truth is just about every single processed food you eat has sugar in it. If you change how you eat to aviod processed sugar the weight drops off. The only processed sugar that I eat now can be found in the bread that I eat which is a Finish product that has .6 gram sugar per 100g. I did this after reading the litriture and whatching the lectures of Proff John Yudkin, Proff Lustig and others who are all of the opinion that the wave of obesity and other diseases since the 70s is the result of increasing amounts of processed sugar in our diet. As for scentific evidence it sepends who`s scientific evidence you want to believe I belive Lustig etal and am amazed by what has happend. As for sugar and the storage of fat it is high school biology, no one chooses to be fat, no I do not take artificial sweeteners and I am eating very well ie not dieting. Finally I don`t really want to fall out or argue with anyone over this you can belive what you like. However if you want to listen to the lectures, read the books and try getting rid of your sugar addiction join our facebook group and we will help. You will loose a lot of weight get a lot fitter and feel a lot better. And finally there is a magic solution to weight loss - quit sugar, the more you get out of your diet the more weight you will loose. You don`t have to count calories in and out you don`t have to go on really hard training program, you just have to find all the hidden processed sugars in you diet and get rid of them - simple. If you want to give it a go then get in touch and join the group. If its not for you then thats fine.

personally eat a balanced diet and exercise, it's what our bodies were designed to do. Sugar can't be converted to fat any quicker than any other food. Cut out is much artificial stuff by all means, but sugar doesn't qualify, I bet some of that sugar is replaced with artificial sweeteners, sometimes they don't call it that, they'll give it an e-code, just a some e-codes are actually naturally occur stuff

Indeed, E numbers are not necessarily bad, some are, some are banned... but many are just formalised names for natural substances.
