Just the expected highjacking by our usual trolls.

You, of course, engaged in your convenient deconstrution of my bout with European tick fever - i. ., leaving out what happened to my girl friend too, and whose medication I used without going to the doctor cured me too.

You guys just live in a simple, simple-minded world whatever you discuss. laugh.gif

So are you saying that you were never actually diagnosed with Lyme Disease? By a doctor I mean, not by yourself. You do not know for sure that you had it, but yet still offered advise to others.

You claim to have been poisoned by ricin, but yet never went to the doctor and so it was never shown to be the case. You claim to have contracted Lyme Disease, but yet never went to the doctor to have this confirmed. You display a tendency to self-diagnose despite having none of the skills required to do so successfully.

We see we have yet another Trow claim which is shown to be dubious... now there's a surprise! Geez, you should carry a government health warning...

The vaccine which is available is against tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) not Lyme disease.

But she had all the symptoms I had, including a swollen gland in her back, so the doctor's diagnosis of her was good enough for me, and it worked.

Being an insecure, unimaginative troll, I imagine you would have gone to the trouble of going to another doctor,
contested his diagnosis, shelled out your money, and then died!

So you never knew for sure, you just made an assumption. I guess that is the story of your life Trow!

If I was ill, I would consult and expert, yes! What I wouldn't do it take someone else's medicine under my own non-expert assumption that I had the same thing. Why on earth having sought medical help, would I then contest the diagnosis? Unlike you, I try not to have preconceived ideas Trow as I am genuinely interested in the truth rather than deluding myself about it.

Thank you for that. I was pretty sure it is just for TBE. I don't beleive we had this vaccine available in the states.

As for Lyme disese I know a bit about that. My son has it. I say "has is" because there is no cure and it never really goes away. When he was diagnosed, I had brought him into the doctor as his knee had suddenly swollen to 1 1/2 times it's size. They had to sendhis blood away to be interpreted by pathologists. It's not like a pregnancy test - there is no directpositiveor negative. This process took several days. When it was confirmed, my son was given a massive cocktail of antibiotics. We had caught it in time that it did not effect his other systems. It tends to effect joints first. We were told symptoms may return later in life, so to just keep an eye on him if he has swelling in his joints in the future. Unfortunatly Lyme's is still a bit of a mystery to the medical community.

Moral of the story... to prevent lyme's - Check for ticks!

I am curious about this vaccination for TBE and plan on asking my doctor about it.

The vaccine is for TBE, and it is advisable get it if You live in a high risk zone. There is a map somewhere, don't have it handy, that shows the high risk zones in Sweden.

Lyme, or rather the Borellia bacteria, transfers slowly from ticks, if it has bitten and is attached then normally it takes 24-48 hours to infect. (TBE is much much faster if the tick carries it sad.gif ). As you will read in many places, the trick is to remove the tick without squishing it, dont squeeze it's tummy! , otherwise the bacteria will flow much quicker into the blood. Tweezers around the tick as close to the skin as possible normally does the trick, though there are those tick removing pens/tubes ... never tried them!

It's hardest with the kids, since they may try to brush it off and squish it ... I taught mine early on to spot the ticks, when out or at home, and if they don't have the confidence in removing it correctly, I do it smile.gif

And my kids have had the TBE shots.

No need to fear the outdoors ... it isn't that dangerous! smile.gif

DEET!

Insect repellent that contains DEET should be applied to the skin and the clothes! If it does not contain DEET, it is worthless! There are 2 other chemicals available that are good alternatives to DEET but they are not yet available in Sweden.

Those little buggers just do not want to hang around when they encounter DEET.

Those ticks can be easily missed because they can be smaller than the head of a pin ohmy.gif

If the initial infection goes unnoticed, it can get very bad indeed.

Simple Antibiotics will CURE it "in most people" if treated early.

If left untreated - "a massive cocktail of antibiotics" might do the trick.

KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS OF INITIAL INFECTION!

This may prove to be useful...remember not all ticks carry lyme disease; only the "deer" tick does...and as mentioned before there are maps available showing dangerous areas.
This article is from an American publication...but it may help.

they sell a tick remover in apoteket which looks like a white plastic lolly stick with a tear shaped hole in it.- this is fantastic & gets the tick out alive everytime - with the other tweezer type ones 50% of the time you will end up (if you are as clumsy as me) tearing the tick in two.

this one :-
