I'm origally an african, but got swedish citizenship 3years ago, ever since i have been living and working in england till recently when i became unemployed. I'm think of relocating back to sweden to be near my children, i speak little or poor swedish. Just want to know what financial benefit i could get being a citizen(eg, job seeker, housing benefit e.t.c)on my return since i might not be able to get a job immediately. Any info will highly be appreciated.

I am always amazed at people who gain Swedish citizenship and cannot speak the language.

Isn't language the main tool of civil engagement and the key indicator of integration?

I was on SFI with a Swedish citizen (Swedish from birth - born in Sweden with a Swedish father but the family relocated to Canada when he was a baby). He spoke no Swedish when he moved here but got socialbidrag and later studiemedel

ohmy.gif Now now... Where is Sunday's Christian Spirit?

Quick answer to the question is ... Citizenship play no part with regards benefits. They are Resident and/or Work based. You should claim unemployment benefit from the UK, since you have been paying social taxes there.

I do hope that as a good citizen you have been submitting your Swedish Tax Declaration during the period worked in the UK?

Your answe seems to relate to A-kassa - you can only ransfer unemployment benefit to another country for max 3 months I believe

I know Swedish citizens who have been able to recive social bidrag from the kommun after returning to Sweden after a period abroad - however it is means tested so you need to show that you have no other funds and the kommun can force you to sell property and do unapid work

@jlondon, i think you are just another little scumbag on the local. Maybe you should be told that even the swedish PM can be unemployed for a short period at some point.

The kommun can also force you to do SFI or SAS and learn Swedish - I did GRUV with a Czech guy who had lived (at the time) in Sweden for 15 years running his own business and was unhappy after the business closed for be forced to do GRUV as a condition of benefits

Nope, not just a-kassa. There are no benefits based upon being a Swedish citizen or not. They are resident and/or work based.

The advantage in having Swedish citizenship is that your have a permanent right to live in Sweden, due to citizenship. That's all.

So, every benefit is open to the OP in Sweden, as long as he meets the criterior for that benefit. eg. He could in theory claim the minimum a-kassa that is paid to everyone. However it may also be possible to claim unemployment from the UK for a period, since there is where he has worked and paid social taxes.

So if the OP returns to live in Sweden he has residence doesn't he as he is a citizen that confers residence rights?

all its about is he wants the taxpayer to pay. no intention of working. Housing benefit, jobseekers allowance, tax credits...i bet he has been sponging £1000 a month. No his aim is to do the same in sweden. just like the likes of me are paying for his kid. No doubt I wouldnt get the same in "africa".
