Cant wait to see the discussion from some of the regular jingoists on here proclaiming that Swedish Tampons have higher standards LOL

Byke, now thats not fair!

Interestingly it was Sweden that went in to bat for hygienic tampons at the EU level!

http://ec.europa.eu/health/medical-devices...obacilus_en.pdf

Seems Sweden did not want some types of hygienic tampons listed as a medical device and subject to the EU directive on medical devices.

So depending on the type the OP seeks, perhaps she should be talking to someone about where to buy a medical device! unsure.gif

Well... If these tampons everyone speaks of are the ones with applicators then that REALLY puts my mind at rest... I just find the whole concept of using ones without applicators disgusting! I've even stopped using public toilets in both the UK and Sweden (anywhere really) because I know some women use applicator-less ones still.

You will have a difficult time finding tampons with applicators, as I wrote earlier. I thought that they do not exist in Sweden, but JulieLou states that ICA Max sells tampons with applicators. So, you can purchase them there.

As well, you can purchase items from drugstore.com (use the American version, they offer products that the Swedish version does not offer) and have them shipped to Sweden.

@mångk- Yes, I must admit that I do worry about the environmental impact of applicators, but surely if they are disposed of properly then there should be no issue?

I just feel that there are a lot of thoughtless people out there who wouldn't think about other people having to use a public toilet. Applicators just seem cleaner to me and better in terms of ensuring a good clean sanitised environment for all.

@Texaslass Well I am not too worried tbh, I intend on bringing maybe 10 or 12 packets with me when I travel to live in Sweden.

It might explain the popularity (or lack of) in Sweden. I just thought it was a clever/funny advert!

Brand specifically - Boots in the UK are one of the resellers linked from the Tampax website. Perhaps Boots in Sweden stock them? http://www.se.boots.com/kontakta-oss.aspx

Libra is owned by Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) http://www.sca.com/en/contact/
Would be a good contact point for finding out if they manufacture products with applicators for the Swedish market.

My local Boots doesn't stock them, only the generic ones with no applicator as was the case with all the other pharmacies I've looked in.

I'd never have imagined I'd have trouble finding Tampax tampons in Sweden blink.gif .

Contact Procter & Gamble direct and ask them where you can by them in Sweden.

http://se.pg.com/kontakt/

or nordicsconsumers@custhelp.com

Tampon with applicator in swedish = tampong med införingshylsa.

My wife has just informed me that Tampax exists, once existed or something like that. I however only joined this thread because as I was siting in queue for 3% hydrogen peroxide(and to my surprise they were going to order 30% which I have no practical use) looked up and saw the bulk bags of little cotton things with strings that perplexed me until the light bulb went off and I realized what the heck they were. ohmy.gif

That video was very informative Bender. I now understand the unique design enhancements of Tampax products that make them favorable to those who require them. Although by having my knowledge increased by being schooled in this unique niche in feminine hygiene I feel empty as I cannot fathom any practice applications in my day-to-day life. Curiosity satiated I hope to never read this thread again! -Paul O_o

The menstural cup is a much better options disposable sanitary items. The menstrual cup is a win win from puttting who knows what, the fibers are not regulated,.
. From the Diva Cup web site:
"From use of disposable feminine hygiene, an estimated 12 billion sanitary pads and 7 billion tampons are dumped into the North American environment each year (1998). More than 170,000 tampon applicators were collected along U.S. coastal areas between 1998 and 1999. Our reusable product is a modern, viable alternative to disposable tampons and pads."
Environmentalism aside, the menstrual cup is like going from a land line telephone to a mobile. Almost nothing to pack and a one time cost. They are never uncomfortable to put in or take out, no worry about toxic shock syndrome. When I was traveling in Nepal and Cambodia, I saw the kids digging through the trash, I was glad to not have put tampons in the trash.
