Hygienic tampons?
Ohhh, these with the cardboard applicator? Yes, very hygienic when you can't tell if they're moldy inside the tube. Most tampons (Ob for example) are sold as individually sealed. If you wash your hands thoroughly before and after using them (as per the instructions) then it's no dirtier than anything else you might be doing in a bathroom. |

Indeed, I'm curious why tampons with applicators would be more hygienic than those without - and why that would have an impact on using a public bathroom. Not trolling, just honestly curious!

I don't trust the hygiene habits of other people...
I am guessing that you must use your fingers to apply non-applicator tampons?(I've never used them.) Then maybe open and close the door? Then turn the tap handle(don't get me started on how unhygienic I think tap handles are) to wash your hands? How many people really worry about others when undergoing this process? Most people likely do care and make sure not to spread mess in public toilets but I bet there are some that don't blink when opening the door to let themselves out with the same hand they just used to apply the tampon... :/ Though, I guess towels and applicators can still lead to dirt being spread about with thoughtlessness lol... Some people just don't think about others and I worry with the use of 'hand applied' tampons would lead to dirt in public toilets being spread about. I am just a very very very clean person(maybe too clean :/) I don't really use public toilets to be honest, I'd have to be rolling about on the floor, even desperate before I'd consider it... And I would always deal with female hygiene in my own home... Really what I am saying is this 'I am not so much judging the habits of others but perhaps saying that I worry too much about this kind of thing, it's in my nature to be a clean freak maybe hehe' |

Don't you touch the end of the tampon as you use the applicator anyway, so you need clean hands regardless of what type you use?
Or perhaps people use pens... I knew there was a reason I never chew mine! |

Hehe, no. You don't have to touch anything other than the applicator when using applicator tampons, that's why I like them
What I guess I am getting at is that I think applicator ones (if used correctly) can reduce mess maybe. But as I said, I am just a super clean person when it comes to this sort of thing- as I am sure most are! |

Becky-
Does it ease your mysophobia at all to note that in Sweden, as opposed to nearly every other place I have been, public toilets almost always have a wash basin right there in the private restroom alongside the toilet? Everywhere else, you have to use a toilet "stall" and then exit to a common area to use the washbasin, but here you can usually wash your hands while still sitting on the loo, if you wish. Incidentally, this difference also makes the aforementioned menstrual cup a more viable option here in Sweden than in most places. |

Awwh! 'mysophobia' I don't think being clean is abnormal
Regarding 'cups' I'd say that it would be something I would have to thoroughly research! |

I personally found the cups messier and harder to deal with!
