Hello All,
I have been living in Sweden for the past 3 years and have been here on work permit working for an IT company. Now i am getting opportunities to do IT work that i could do as a separate company (by creating a new company under my name). Wanted to get some inputs from folks who have started company. Can we start a company while on a work permit? If i have to resign from my existing company i will lose my work permit so can i apply for a work permit based on my new company? Initially i am planning to run the business separately but i am pretty sure down the lane i will have to resign from my current job as there will be possible conflict of interests on the contracts i am expecting to get related to work for my own company. Any suggestions or guidance? |

If you see a future possibility of conflict of interest, you are supposed to inform your employer before creating the company - not waiting until you get a contract. Well, unless you have a super-liberal kollektivavtal, which I doubt unless you are working for a university or similar, rather than a company.
For the migrationsverket related part: I am not sure about starting AB-company, but if you run as a sole-trader (aka enskild firma), you do not need a new work permit*, and you already have a residence permit. So you could just start that on the side, of course without reducing your primary employment to less than what is needed for keeping the current work+residence permit (13000 sek salary, etc.). * If you look at self-employed page on migrationsverket website, you will see there is no mention of work permit, but only residence permit - and self-employment isn't considered as being employed by a company. |

Some one could create a company for you. Perhaps your spouse/partner/relative/friend.
That way you can have the cake and eat it too. |
