Hello,
Need some advise here for my situation:
1.I am an Indian.
2.I have PUT for Sweden and my 5 years will be over in october 2012, so i can apply for citizenship.
3.My company has offices in Norway (near swedish border Fredrikstad) and Sweden .

Is it possible to live in Norway but still be registered in sweden and get a salary from the swedish company until i get Swedish citizenship and then change my company to the norwegian subsidiary.
In this case i need not apply for a work permit for norway and also will be eligible to apply for swedish citizenship.

During the transition period before i get the citizenship, my company can arrange accomodation in norway .
But do you think it can be some problems as there is a rule of max 90 days one can stay in norway without work?

Or are there any other ways you can suggest , so i am still eligible for Swedish citizenship but work in norway before i get my citizenship.

Also,
In my case what can be the waiting period ?, i called migrationverket and they say it can take upto 1 year. but it depends on case by case.
Any personal experience of how much time it can take?

Thanks
Animesh

Hi,
Or is it possible to apply before i complete 5 years.
I have a permanent job with a swedish company.
In october i complete my 5 years requirement but i was on business visa for 1 month before i came on work permit to Sweden.
Do you think i can apply already now`,... has anyone done that ?
Thanks

According my understanding ..if you are working on assignment for ur Swedish company and pay the taxes and visit Sweden every week ..that time is still eligible in ur 5 years time. So what I would suggest is that let u or ur family still live in the border of Sweden and u commute to Norway subsidiary everyday or every week...I think you can work in Norway for 90 days without WP ...as you are within the Nodics...apply for Norwegian WP whatz the issue there ?

Lets wait and see what other seniors have to say as-well.

I think.. you have met per-requisites already(5 years of work and salary/tax).

Now.. if you apply and initiate naturalization, and can manage to inform the MigrationBoard that you will be back soon to Sweden along with short visits to Sweden in between, it should be fine.

Applying for Norwegian WP should not conflict.

Don't apply for swedish citizenship before your time (October), because as you submit your application, they'll look at your application and if it is before time, they'll send you back and ask to re-submit in Oct. And you'll not get back application fee, and'll have to pay again in October. A friend of mine applied just one month before his time, and he got it back and lost application fee as well.

Thanks Fernandis.
I will keep that in mind for sure.

THere is a little twist here,
Me and my wife both have got job offers from Norwegian company.
My wife joined me in 2010, so we can not apply for her citizenship.
So, we are planning to apply Work permit for Norway for both of us.
She would start working for the norwegian company and i will still work for the swedish coutnerpart.
Is it possible for me to live in norway and work for Swedish company and then as i am paying taxes in sweden , i can apply for my citizenship in october.
Or do i have to have an address here in sweden where i am supposed to live to apply for swedish citizenship`

I just want to be sure as i do not want to take up any illegal course of action.

Your wife'll get swedish citizenship only when she has lived here for 5 years. I don't see any problem in your case because you are still connected with sweden by paying taxes. I'd suggest to keep your swedish address active in tax office even if you have moved to Norway, and don't change untill you have submitted your application for citizenship. Once, you submit the application then there is no issue whether you live in sweden or Norway, because you already have full-filled their requirement for citizenship. I hope you got my point wink.gif
Norway is a nice country, better than sweden... stay there if possible wink.gif

Where and if you pay taxes has no relevance for a citizenship application. It is time spent in Sweden that counts, but you are allowed to stay shorter periods abroad.

If you are stationed abroad as employee of a Swedish company (employed in Sweden) you can stay longer abroad: see bottom of page http://www.migrationsverket.se/info/499_en.html

As others have said, do not apply early! You don't say if your 5 years includes that 1 month business visa? If it does, then I suggest waiting an extra month, since a business visa is a temporary permit that is not issued with the intention of settlement. Only periods on permits which were issued with the intention of settlement are normally counted. It depends how pedantic the case-handler is!

@ Fernandis If one applies for Citizenship even if the time (some months less than 5 years) is a little bit less and if they do not send back the applied application, does it mean that my application is accepted? I applied in January and they did not send back my application. However, I requested my passport as soon as I applied after a week. They send my passport back with a letter mentioning do not send back your passport until we ask and as long as that you are in the queue, you don't loose your waiting time.
I applied for sambo visa in May 2007 and was granted from sep 2007 and sambo left me after more than a year and I found another sambo. For first sambo they gave me 2 years visa and for second sambo 1 year and then I got my PUT in dec 2010. After my PUT my another sambo left me. Now, I applied in Jan 2012 for my citizenship. Now, I am waiting. I was student before and came in 2003 Dec. I know student period doesn't count. But still I applied even the period is less than 5 years. I don't know how they accept for some and do not accept for some. I applied because anyway the processing time will take more than a year.
