I am planning a trip to Sweden. What are the top 5-10 things I have to see. I don't even know where to start. I know I want to go to the archipelago in West Sweden, but besides that I haven't planned much. Thanks

I would go hiking in Lappland, in northern Sweden if said trip is going to be during the summer. Search for "Sarek National Park" and you'll see what I mean.

The most visited places in Sweden is Stockholm, Gothenburg and down south in Scania. And there`s resons behind that. Why not visit Stockholm and get a different view by taking ballonride;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSWaCJ6ZFCA&feature=plcp If that`s to slowpaced you can always experience the archipelago outside Stockholm with a powerboat; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUFqUozdioE And when you are done with that you can dance the night away; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5RuPLgpFoc If you want to go down south you can drive around the small towns in the area. When driving from town to town you can stop at one of the estates and have some lunch or buy something at the farmshop; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQ5uwM-I56c&feature=plcp But I`d also suggest Gotland which I think is a hidden gem. It`s the largest island in Sweden and lies in the Baltic Sea; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNr24eC90hI It might be abit more relaxed but if you want to party there is opportunity for that aswell; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhRUpXvf76E |

The Vasa Museum in Stockholm...it is what I would imagine a "Pirates of the Caribbean" set to look like. Awesome! http://www.vasamuseet.se/en/ Skansen is very nice. It's supposed to reflect how Swedish people used to live. It's also partly a zoo with Bears, penguins etc. http://www.skansen.se/en/ |

It depends what you are after.
Gotland during summer. Kiruna during winter - Northern Lights, snow mobiling, dog sledding. A party cruise out to the Finnish Island. Get here by next Friday and you could experience Midsommar. Crayfish parties. Vasa Museum. Stockholm Old Town. Go on a hunt. Moose, dear, wild pig. That's 8 for you |

Kungsleden (during summer). If you're into that sort of thing.

I can second Gotland, truly beautiful place! Rent a house/apartment and bike around the island, grilling in the evenings, awesome!

+1 for the Vasa museum. Stockholmers usually under appreciate it it for some reason, but it truly is a world class museum. It is amazingly well designed around a single theme and the visit only takes a couple of hours. Make sure you go all the way down to the lowest level where some actual victim's skeletons are displayed and reconstructed to show what they probably looked like and also go all the way to the top level to really grok the scale of the ship. Note that you cannot board the ship itself, but it is still not to be missed!

Strange,
A lot of places have been mentioned for people to go to. But there seems a particular absence of things to "do", unless traveling to such places is the actioning? |

I agree with the Vasa museum in Stockholm and a trip to Gotland or Öland.

Strange,. A lot of places have been mentioned for people to go to.. But there seems a particular absence of things to "do", unless traveling to such places is the actioning? So, Snowmobiling, skiing, dogsleding, party cruises, midsummer and hunting are not 'doing' things? Forgot to mention the hiking and mountainbiking in Sweden are great during summer. There is also a rooftop tour you can do in Stockholm, which I personally haven't done but have heard it is good. Sailing Stockhol archipelago is also fantastic on a sunny day! |
