Shifting Furniture! the cheapest way to do it

Sorry in advance if I am asking a stupid question but being a slightly new in the city i do not know about these things so asking for guidance, advice, experience story.

So far I was a student and living in student corridor which was equipped with furniture (and other heavy items). Now taking a small apartment on rent which has no furniture. So thinking to buy some second hand stuff. Problem is that I have no idea that how one can move items from seller to my apartment in most cheapest way. It would be great if someone from you guide me in this regard.
