Well, people usually ask if I'm from England (probably to the horror of the English wink.gif. I tell whomever though that I'm not from England. I'm from blah-blah instead. And since they asked me about myself, I feel I can ask them the same about themselves, and so I ask them if they're from blah-blah town in Sweden. Some are. Many aren't, and those who aren't then usually say something about where they lived before or where they grew up or where their grandparents' house - now their summer stuga - is. And then they often ask if I know where blah-blah is, and if I don't, then they seem happy to tell me about the area and share something sweet about it or advise a nice area to visit, etc., all of which I think is really nice.

It never occurred to me to be irritated or offended by a where-are-you-from question. I come from generations of roamers though. I look a little different than others of my "clan", but I figured it was just a quirk that popped up again in the family line. I'm not worried if people are bothered if I look "different." That's their problem. And in reality, we're all probably frankensteins anyway - pieced together from past generations. This grandmother's eyes, that grandfather's nose, this great-great-great one's hands, that great-great one's crooked teeth, etc. And where are any of us from anyway? To some degree, isn't it really just a description of where our particular water sacks of genetic goo have most recently been? At the end of the day, we're just self glorified, electrified, water balloons in assorted shapes and colors.

I've never thougt of myself as a self-glorified, electrified water balloon before but that's a good a description as any.

If I were hiring I would give jobs to my own people first...I think that applies to any native anywhere...not just Sweden...It's hard to accept if you need employment, but so do natives and after all it's their country...no matter what country that is.

I would like to moan about people who moan about moaning.. (Have you considered leaving if you can't adapt to others' way of thinking here?)

Give a thought to the fact that you seldom find Swedes moaning on here.

So right, GH. But try telling that to the moaners. Many seem to think that they are God's gift to the country they move to. If they move here of their own free will then . . . . .
When folk move here to avoid persecution in their home country that is a different matter, but even they need to exercise a modicum of discretion, and not expect everyone to accede to their demands, after all, they want to be made welcome, and to feel free.
Having myself lived in Sweden for quite a long time, yes - I could moan about things. But restrain, since I am still a guest here, despite having all the necessary documents, numbers and whatnot. Moaning may get things out of your system - or not. But you do not win friends and influence people by the moans. In more ways than one you get their backs up, and not only those of the nationals, but of the other foreigners here, too.
So how do you react to that comment Cogito? cool.gif Or are you feeling self-righteous still?

No matter - have a nice day . . . or do you want to moan about the weather or something?

Why should they ?
its an English forum.

If they were going to moan, it would be on a Swedish forum - regarding another nation.

Such as "France's news in Swedish."

Well it appears we have Doris Stokes or someone with a clairvoyant gift.
Unless you can find a post that clearly states "I think I am gods gift to the country".

Correction Byke, it is a forum IN English. Where does it say 'Not for Swedes?
As to the being God's gift, see those that complain that they did not get the job they sought since it went to someone else, when clearly they felt that THEY were the bees knees.
In fact I might suggest that you get back on your bike, and ride around a bit, matey. or would that be too demanding???

I'm sure Migrationsverket would have something to say about that!

Exactly.
It should be no surprise to anyone... Employers are not just looking for qualifications and experience, they are looking for someone that will also fit into the existing teams. I know 1 large company that team builds certain teams by having innebandy matches, they prefer to employ people that can and do play innebandy biggrin.gif ...it is a personal choice for the employer making the decision.

ComHem also give contact numbers and an address to a Swedish based office.
But that doesn't make BBCworld or CNN to be automatically based in Sweden.

Fact remains the same, this is a forum for English speakers (apart from 1 sub forum) based in England.
Discussions are able to cover a wide range of topics and subjects throughout the world.
But the main section of the forum is its focus on Sweden and its attributes (both GOOD and BAD)

How that effects the rights of posters and what they can talk about is still being objected to by Mystic Meg.
But so far their visions of utopia have fallen far from reality.

?

How? It is an English language forum catering (mainly) for English speakers living in Sweden.

I've been here 5 years. I struggle with my life here to be honest. I've definitely taken a few steps backwards career wise. I'm not in the same good job I had at home and I'm back to unskilled work here but over all, it's far easier to have a family here and my missus has her family around so I need to take the good with the bad. Day to day life in Sweden is almost unbearable dull though compared to back home. I miss a lot of the comforts I had there and I do see myself going back someday when the kids are old enough to stay here if they want to. Moving them now would be disruptive with new schools, the language etc etc.

I think it's the ease of childcare here which ultimately has be staying for the meantime. Outside of that, I'm struggling to think of reasons to stay. Not that home is a paradise either or anything, but overall, there's just more there. Sweden is like a place where you blink and realise 10 years of your life just passed you by.

Byke was asserting that the forum is based in the UK. The evidence says otherwise. Otherwise your "mainly" need not be in brackets. Some regular posters including myself do not actually live in Sweden.
