We are getting ever closer to our long planned move south from Norway to Skåne. I will keep my job in Norway and commute. The main reason for the move is to be closer to family in Copenhagen, better climate (than western Norway), cheaper and better value than Norway. House prices are considerably less in Sweden, so by selling our house in Norway we will be fairly well set to buy in Sweden, so money is not a huge issue.
We know Skåne fairly well, and have visited many times, but it is not the same as living there. We will be buying sometime after christmas and moving in around May/June next year. We have a few priorities, but not too many restrictions. Language is not a problem either. We need quite a bit of space - at least 150 kvm in the house and a garage. We need a garden and want to be close(ish) to a beach. We do spend a lot of time outside with the dog and like to walk, cycle, drink coffee and eat cake! Sailing, kayaking and windsurfing areas should also be fairly close by, as should a town of reasonable size with all the necessary amenities. We do not want to be in the centre of town though. The radius is roughly from Landskrona in the north and around the coast to Trelleborg in the south. Areas of interest so far are Bjärred, Lomma, Bunkeflostrand, Vellinge, Ljughusen and Trelleborg. I understand than some of these areas, particularly the southern coast are very busy in the summer. Is that a big problem? Can anyone give a brief summary of any of these areas, good and bad? What types of people are tending to love there. We are in our mid 30's so don't really want to be in a retirement area! That being said a family friendly, safe area with low crime is important to us. We are going to be visiting the whole area next week to do a good look around, so any tips or inputs would be very much appreciated and might save us some time on our recce next week. |

You've missed Lund & Ystad - both pretty towns with good transport connections.

Avoid Landskrona like the plague, crime ridden dump of a hell hole! Just google "Landskrona crime rates" and take a peek.

Avoid the ghettos and stay south on the coast. You will also be close to CPH, which is the main reason for your move.
You cannot go wrong with e.g. a waterfront property in Lomma ~~~PDX~~~ |

Something along these lines, quite reasonably priced too:
http://www.blocket.se/lund/Sodra_Vastkustv...a=23_10&w=1 Since this is in the proximity of the E20 highway, you will easily make it to centre of Copenhagen in under an hour. ~~~PDX~~~ |

Thanks for the replies. Just the sort of info I need. Is Ystad really that bad? I had heard some rumours about Landskrona as well, so that is kind of what I expected. Falsterbo to Trelleborg would be the most likely place to start. Any big issue in Trelleborg?
Animesh - good luck. Only tip is to invest in Gortex! |

We live in Bunkeflostrand and I love it! It is a nice family community and lots of nice places to walk the dog. Its 10 min to Hyllie on bus 6 and then just hop on the train to cross the bridge to CPH.
There is also Klagshamn which is just up the road from Bunkeflostrand. There is a nice harbor area and beach. The number 6 bus also runs from there every 10 minutes. We rent a flat so I dont really know anything on house prices but there are building lots of new family homes in my part of BFS. The new houses in this area were advertised at around 4 million kr. There is a nice area along the see and the house were built in the 70's and 80's.Parts of Klagshamn are a bit cheaper. There is also Sibbarp and Limhamn area. You might want to look there Good Luck |

. Any big issue in Trelleborg? No biggies, it's a nice enough town with decent facilities. Somewhere like this is in the old residential area of town which is very quiet and like it's own little village yet is within walking distance to all the shops, schools, bus station etc. The new motorway extension has made the trip from Trelleborg to Malmö seem so much shorter. There is a new ring road being built around the town to tie in with the expansion of the port and the train service is due to be expanded to a passenger service soon, at present it only carries freight. We live a little further east along the coast in a small village called Böste, it's got a good sandy beach and is great for windsurfing, kite surfing etc. there are small boat harbours in Gislövs Läge and Smygehamn. Our kids are in school in Smygehamn and I can highly recommend it. |

We're in the process of moving from UK to Sweden and spent many weeks travelling around Skane looking for similar places - opted in the end for Hollviken. Items that swung it over other areas (some mentioned above) was the family feel and the choice of schools for the kids. I commute to London via Copenhagen and its very easy. Also not far to Sturup if not reachable from Copenhagen.
Absolutely agree with PDX that by the coast is best. |
