Nasserdine Mennis is on trial in Sctoland charged with being part of a terrorist conspiracy which led to the 2010 Christmas Sucide bomber in Stockholm.

The defence lawyer asked to see the CCTV of where the car was parked. However the film had been destroyed because Swedish law only permits the film to be stored for a certain length of time.

So here we are, Sweden has a suicide bomber who only manages to blow himself up. Important footage, possible crucial evidence against other possible terrorists exists, a gold mine in the fight against international terrorism - and Sweden destroy it?

Plain good old-fashioned Swedishness kicks in again, embarrassing themselves on the world stage.

"Den åtalade Nasserdine Mennis försvarsadvokat William Taylor hänvisar till en svensk polisrapport där en intensiv diskussion nämns. Den ägde rum mellan Abdulwahab och en okänd man strax innan laddningen utlöstes den 11 december 2010 enligt Taylor. Mötet ska ha dokumenterats på övervakningskamera och flera vittnen ska ha sett det.
– Jag har alltid misstänkt att det fanns en man till som var inblandad, säger Taylor.
Han tror också att någon hjälpte Abdulwahab att hitta en perfekt plats att ställa bilen på mitt i julhandeln. Taylor bad svenska utredare om att få se övervakningsfilm på när bilen parkeras, men filmen hade förstörts eftersom den bara får lagras en begränsad tid.

Most CCTV recordings are only kept for a short time. In the London underground it is 48 hours to 30 days: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/termsandconditions/22246.aspx

If the Swedish investigators had made their own copy for the investigation the material would have been kept, but apparently they did not.

Yeah, but do you think the UK would have destroyed the CCTV of the 7/7 terrorists?

This is big, really embarrassing for Sweden.
