Guys,
I am planning to pop the question to my girlfriend and was wondering if anyone here knows where to get a chic engagement ring with the budget around 10,000 SEK. I have done some (well ,a lot) of search over the internet, visited some shops but what I have seen couldn’t just impress me(of course, given my budget)…so maybe there someone out here with a good alternative to share about a nice, elegant ring… any suggestion from specific shops and individuals who handmade personalized rings are well appreciated…. 1000 tack |

Do you know about the differences in sweden concerning engagement rings compared to other nations?
Its more common for a plain gold ring to be given as an engagement ring ... just in case she backs out ... and the bling comes when she is taken up the aisle. |

Tack @ byke, there is no backing out
i have no clue about the difference...but i do know how we do it our way,,,i follow the way my fellas have been doing it for quite long...in most cases the engagement ring is a bit more expensive than the wedding ring...the one for when she is taken up the aisle is just white gold ring with engravings (with some personalized touch, of course)...but for engagement, it gotta be a bit chic hehe (well my gf is a bit posh, so i am trying to do my best with the 10K |

Totally cool and fully understand where you are coming from ... Just didn't want to see a uncomfortable situation arise if your other half is super swedish. As for jewelers .. not sure to be honest ... best bet would be to find a place that has a lower exchange rate (ebay etc) if looking for a statement piece on limited funds. |

Whereabouts are you?
I found a cool goldsmith in Uppsala recently to get my doctoral ring made - she has a tiny shop near the Carolina Library - she does wedding jewellry as well so you contact her - however I think she is closed for the summer during July http://www.vonweisz.se/ |

My friends recently got married and ordered their rings online - they were gorgeous. I think they said Amazon had a good selection. Good luck!

save your cash, invest all your wedding money in some fund or property etc. just live together. You can either celebrate at your 10 year mark with some of money your investment has gained or if you've split by then, celebrate the money you've saved in not getting wed.
Call me miserable, but in 10-20years time, you'll just have faded memories, a dusty dress and some video/photo footage. A great month long holiday without the wedding could provide the same. Either way, buy what YOU like, not chasing some posh ideals to meet her family's approval. They and her should accept you whatever you buy her, be it a wooden ring, or a 22mm brass washer from a copper pipe compression joint! |

or a 22mm brass washer from a copper pipe compression joint! Incidentally, these are also sold by Amazon, I found one with a slightly smaller size, but it's very pretty indeed http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brass-Fitting-Comp...1522&sr=1-5 ~~~PDX~~~ |

I feel you @ skogbo, totally understood!
But this has nothing to do with family approval or somethin’. And I am sure she will love whatever is that I ‘ll buy…and that is why I wanted a good? one…she don’t even want me to spend a penny on engagement and stuff…but she love surprises and whenever I do something to surprise her...she just glows into something sublime-I love that. And I am sure if I save what I am gonna spend now, it won’t get me nothing…it is just insignificant. But thanks for the your advice, appreciate the tone, hehe PDX, that was a good one...:-p |

Ah the innocence of youth, so when you both stroll past a jewellry shop in town or she sees something in a magazine and she says she doesn't really want one or certainly nothing flash, you think that's what she 'really' means? Let hope so, but good luck either way. I've had a few friends who wanted small quiet weddings, but the relatives or parents would be so upset or offended if Aunty whoever couldn't come etc., they ended up with 100 plus guests for the day! Many of whom they probably hadn't spoken to for years before or after, but they still got a free meal out of it. PDX, good to see amazon catering for all budgets and tastes. |

It is also customary that engagement rings are worn by both. After the wedding the wife ends up with two rings, engagement and wedding ring, while the husband wears the engagement ring. |
