Yes I have a work contract. I start work on Monday 6th August. I have called all the banks in my area. None will open an account for me without Swedish ID. I suspect things we

The problem here is that you called them and you got a standard answer from a phone staffer. I walked into the Länsförsäkringar branch, put my passport, contract and Skatteverket printout on the table and told them I wanted a bank account and got one. Same worked for three other EU colleagues I have... in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Where are you in Sweden? |

I'm in Gavle, about 90 minutes north of Stockholm. I've been in contact with someone I know you works for Swedebank and they have called the manager of the bank. Think things are ok now. I dont have to go to and get a drivers license or a residents permit.

My (pointless) residence card arrived today, do you guys think this would be acceptable form of ID to open a bank account?
Also does anyone know of an english speaking forklift license course? I have a job but it's only part time so I would like to find more work. If anyone has contacts in warehouse work I'd appreciate it and thank you in dinner and beer! I have previous experience and looking to graft and earn some money! |

Nice one, the "know a person who knows a person" approach. Once they realise they are turning away a perfectly good customer they come to their senses! |

As an Eu resident, you dont need a Swedish personnummer to work in Sweden. What you do need if you choose not to use one, is a samordningsnummer, which is provided by the tax office, so the right tax get taken off etc etc etc. Just as a side note.

My (pointless) residence card arrived today, do you guys think this would be acceptable form of ID to open a bank account? Nope. Your residence card is purely for immigration matters - leaving and entering the country, need to prove your have residency etc. Most of which is irrelevant if you're an EU citizen. It won't be accepted as a form of ID as it doesn't carry your personnummer. Your better off trying with your passport and the letter from Skatteverket that states your PN. |
