Ok help people!!
I want some info on getting money while looking for work, my partner is not being much help with the Swedish side of things. I got a letter from Försäkringskassan saying I might be in titled to money, looked on the arbetsförmedlingen website and they say to make an account fill out some stuff and then go into and arbetsförmedlingen office. I did this the other day when I had not made an account, yet I took my försäkringskassan letter with me, and said that my understanding was that I had to register with arbetsförmedlingen in order to get money, she told me to ring the number on the letter I showed her from försäkringskassan and I did after selecting English on the phone the lady asked me what the letter said well me now in tears had no idea I could not really remember what goggle translate had told me, but she then said the was this and that it was nothing only for people with children. So now I am even more totally confused. Do I bother with arbetsförmedlingen I can myself look online every day to see there are no jobs for me in my area or is to going to be of some benefit, If I register with them? Will I get money? I am here on a two year visa via a sambo. And if I do go into arbetsförmedlingen do I need to make an appointment?? My local office is not close and they are only open 2 days a week ,the next nearest is over a 100km round trip. Help !!!!!!!!!! |

Forget arbetsförmedlingen. They are bloody useless. I don't know if you'll get money from them if you sign up, it just means you are entitled to the money. It really depends on how much your sambo makes and if it's over 10,000kr a month, you're sunk.
Sweden isn't the easiest place to find work. well it is easy to find A job but you need to lower your expectations, especially if your swedish isn't good. Do you know anyone who can get you in anywhere? that's the way most swedes get jobs, unless it's professional stuff and even then, knowing someone will help you. good luck! |

I dont know if your entitled to A-kassa, which would be what u'd get from arbetsförmedlingen. I somewhat doubt you can get that on your visa tho. The only thing i can think of would be "Social care" aka "socialbidrag" from "socialförvaltningen" but again i dont know what rules apply regarding your visa.
However i can guarantee you that if you want to see any money at all you will have to be registered with the local arbetsförmedling, there's no way to escape that system. I think your lucky tho, since a small office can be alot better than the ones in the "big cities", They are there to help but dont think they will get you a job because they wont. www.platsbanken.se www.blocket.se www.lokus.se and all the other sites like monster, academic works, proffice and so on.. is a good start. Also get the local newspaper and look for job adds there, apply to all jobs that you can, best of luck. |

yeah, be prepared for recruitment companies. You'd be forgiven for thinking no company hires anyone anymore in sweden, they all go through these recruitment companies. Even Posten hasn't hired new people in 11 years. Ship em in and ship em out.

schomberg can you please tell me which jobs are easy to get with limited swedish as im desperate for a job in gothenburg! Bar work, restaurant work, cleaning (even thats harder nowadays, it's filled with young swedes). cleaning companies have a huge turnover of staff so you're in luck there. try Bohus for that. You could try another route, by signing up to a vikariepool with your local kommun for extra work at dagisar, schools etc. chances are you'll find a lot of work there, though at different places all the time. There's a few english speaking schools that use that too. You could always go down the personal assistant road, but I dunno..that seems like more a calling than a job to me. Also go to your local post office and see if there's anything going. I've heard it's sometimes possible to get work as a postman depending on the area. nows probably a good time to be looking for something though, all the extra people (students) are going back to school in the next few weeks so there'll be vacancies. Don't know if you're a man or woman, but moving companies are another place that are always looking for someone. There's one called ICM out in Mölndal. Movers get a very decent wage by the way, I was surprised. Forktruck license is another must I think for anyone just off the boat. It definitely opens doors. I did my course on a Thursday and Friday and had a job by Wednesday. |

@leoni, it is impossible to say if You are currently entitled to any benefits unless You say which permit you have, eg. sambo ? or EU Right of residence. In addition to that, how long You have been in Sweden, Have you worked in Sweden already, if so, how long ago and roughly how many hours in total during 12 months.
That wil ldo for starters. |

There always seems to be an abundance of adds in metro etc looking for them. I can only go by own experience mate and it was within days after I'd gotten my license. Nows a good time though, all the students are going back to school so there'll be places that won't be able to find extra workers. You've nothing to loose anyway. Try the movers too. It's not as bad as it sounds, I did it for a few weeks when I came here. Mostly offices. hmmmm what else? applying for jobs that are advertised is a waste of time. I found that anyway. It's you, against thousands of others who can speak swedish. Just send letters/cvs out to companies, or if it's warehouse stuff, just ring them and ask. I've never gotten near even an interview for those jobs that were advertised, but I've never been out of work since I landed here 5 years ago. I'm a "skilled worker" but the language cancelled out my "skill" so I'm basically back to zero. My missus didn't know anyone who could get me in somewhere, neither did her family, so it was all cold calling. It is possible to get money coming in and once it is you can relax a little and asses where you go from there. Priority is getting some kr into your account, showing potential employers that you ARE working in other swedish companies and having the chance to speak swedish everyday. |

Hey Schomberg,
You seem to have helped me in a few area's already so here is another request for you help and advice please mate! I've got my personummer, awaiting on my ID card so bank account should also be sorted soon. I have a job with LPS (setting up and rigging stages for festivals and events) I havent started yet but I have also been advised to look for other work as they cant give out set hours as they are event organisers. I was looking to take my forklift license as it seems like it could open a few doors for me, I was wondering if the course you took was in English, how much it was (I've heard about 2,000kr is the going rate) and if it is more likely to get me warehouse work as that's what I'm keen to get stuck in to. Also, I'm a girl would this lessen my chances of being taken on for this kind of work? I've done warehouse work before but never forklift. Any help appreciated...again! |

You are on a two year visa that means you are not from the EU. Have you ever worked in Sweden, if not there will be no A-kassa. Not being an EU member means you must find support i.e. partner etc. Jobs are scarce in Sweden unless you live in Stockholm (the centre of nowhere). It sounds like you are in a remote place where a job is probably very hard to find. You do not need to make an appointment for arbetsförmedlingen, just take a ticket. You can try registering at arbetsförmedlingen, I don’t think that they will help straight away but if you are lucky to find a person who knows what they are talking about you will get advice (one thing Swedes are not generous on giving away information unless you keep asking). Why is your partner not being much help with the Swedish side of things? What does your partner do for an income, is your partner Swedish, a lot of questions have to have the right answers for you to get anything from socialförvaltningen. The current government has made huge cuts in this area.
I think you must tell us more about yourself, i.e. where are you from, what skills you have etc. Someone here may be able to help. |

Oh thanks for the help guys and I didn't know about the other job websites. But as I know here are no jobs around here but worth a look any way.
I am a nurse back home will start At SFI in another month, I do speak some Swedish but generall chat stuff i could never do a job interview alone in swedish. I have lived here before but was payed Cash I was legaly able to work but didn't have a personal number or anything. But that was outside Stockholm as a nanny, yes manny nannys needed in Stockholm!!! My partner seams to think I could be money for looking for work and didn't think it would matter what he earned. My partner not helpin with he Swedish side of things he thinks i Need to to it all myself you know what i don't even know why!!! We live in a small town that he has lived in most of his life he owns a Restaurant, no I am not allowed to work there Full stop!!! He seems to think I will get a job over winter. I was reading on the ski star website the other day and they get close to 900 applications each year and take 200 and they ONLY do interviews in Swedish which is stated on there website. And will take applications in a month and them do intivews soon after that which doesnt leave me much roo For improvement. He thinks I will get a job in he ski shop his sister works in (ski star ) I love to ski but don't know the first think about skis boots or binding or snow boards for that matter. He thinks I should be getting up at 9 am and going out talking to people but I am just not like that and certintaly not in a small town where people talk I grew up in a small town. I have said he needs to talk to the people he knows I don't know if he has done that or not. I have also been a nanny for 12 years but there is not a need for nannys around here, once a gain skis star do hire a few over winter. I don't even think there is a dagis here outside winter and in winter it's open 2 hours a day. Oh well if I dont get a job skiing each day over winter won't be so bad. |
