Good morning everybody,
I have just started part time living in Stockholm and I have a question for you all. I am employed in Sweden on a part time basis for 5 months per year. The contract is not with me but through a foreign company. I would like to open a personal bank account but I have been told by 2 banks now that this only can be done if I have either a SSN or a 'coordination number' from Skatteverket. Is this really true? Any comments are appreciated! |

You are living and working in Sweden so where are you being paid and are you paying tax in Sweden ? (The latter no from your question but if it were yes your problem would solve itself ?)

Well, if 2 banks have already told you that, why don't you just go to Skatteverket and check with them?

It depends on where you come from. E.g. citizes of Nordic countries can open accounts with just an (non-Swedish) ID. Citizens from other continents may need to provide more documents..

Thank you all for you replies.
I have since found out that it is possible if someone can introduce you to a bank. So it is not a necessary legal requirement... |

Did you try SEB bank, if I remember correctly they are one of the few banks that will let people without personnummer open accounts.

My experience was no personnummer, no bank account - samordningsnummer wasn't enough. My sambo bought a house here and still had a contact with the bank. I was able to get an account via that route - I didn't want to use his contacts, but there didn't seem to be any other options.

LOL in Sweden you need to be "introduced" even in opening a bank account nowadays? That's hillarious.

SEB in Ostermalmstorg, you need a passport and a swedish work contract for at least 6 months and theywill give you a bare minimum account.
