Hello,
I am a new international master student. I just arrived to Stockholm. I'll be studying full time in Uppsala University starting from this week but I'll be living in Stockholm for some personal reasons. I want to know how can I get student discounts on tickets for travelling to uppsala and backm and in stockholm. What is cheap and fast mode of transportation? Any help would be highly appreciated. |

If you are studying 80% (or full time) then you should join the student union. The card you get should have a Mecenet logo on it as well as the SJ (rail operator) symbol. With this you can get student discount on rail travel if you're over 25. If you're under 25 you qualify for a young person's discount.
Depending on how often you are in Uppsala it might be best to get a season ticket rather than pay 75sek (which is the student price) each way. Some people who commute from Stokholm do so by car, but you'll have to work out whether that's the cheapest way for you. |

Don't buy a season ticket or monthly card until you get your schedule to see how often you need to be in school
I commuted från Dalarna and for me I had to be in Uppsala for 12 days per month to be better off with a monthly ticket over than buying single tickets - some months it was worthwhile and others not - SJ sell 10 packs of tickets with student discount that are cheaper for Stockholm - Uppsala it is cheaper to travel on the regional trains- the Inter City and X2000 high speed trains are much more expensive - the regional trains take around 10 mins longer |
