I am currently in Sweden on a visitor's permit before travelling to France on a work permit. I plan to online shop and wonder if there is anyway to avoid the VAT taxes from using my Canadian credit card with my Canadian billing address but sent to my Swedish address? Thanks!

The items will be shipped to EU (subject to VAT). Your nationality has nothing to do with it. |

It was a very good question. And the answer actually is Yes You can, indirectly. Though I suspect You might find the answer not so useful? It does not matter if You buy from a shop or online within the EU. At time of purchase You pay the VAT. It works as tax-back-for-tourists. You can buy online or in a shop, all over the EU. Make sure that with the purchase You get a proper purchase receipt, and that the store is registered with regards vat-refunds for non-EU (can't remember off-top-of-head what it is called exactly, you can always ask the seller). The next condition is that You can only claim back the VAT if You export (take away with you) out of the EU within 3 months of purchase. To do that You take whatever you bought to the airport, get a customs stamp on teh receipt, and then you can claim the VAT back when exiting the EU. |

The refund scheme is Global Blue for Swedish merchants. Also, you cannot use or unpack the merchandise. |
