I passed SFI in 11 weeks

What? Can you please elucidate on how you achieved that? Could it be that you have become fluent in Swedish before starting SFI? Its my third week in SFI and I started at level C3.

I already speak Swedish to a reasonably high level - is there any point in doing SFI? I have always felt that I missed out on the full experience by not going, but I have never been able to justify it timw-wise.

I spoke basic Swedish (I can order stuff, hold very basic conversations, etc) and they tossed me straight into 3D - and I thought I was going to be put into the beginners group. I was even more stunned when the SFI teacher said I should be aiming to be done by the end of November; that's SFI in about 4 months.

I might be able to learn faster on my own. But I don't always get to it between work and whatever. Plus I need somewhere to actually practice speaking and listening, having conversations in Swedish. Besides, who knows who I'll meet?

If you go in to the kommun then they will do a placement test to see where you should start - some people skip SFI and start at GRUV (GCSE) level

Or you could look at one of the private distance internet courses run by Folkuniversitet that allows you to study when you want

She probably means finished with SFI C - then you go on to SFI D - approx a term at each level or 9-12 months on SFI as a whole is average. SFI covers Primary school Swedish - approax grades 1-7 in Swedish schools

Then there is only
SAS Grund (like GCSE)
SAS gymnasiet (A level/IB/ high school leaving level)
